USPS still "Awaiting package" after one week...

lkeneficlkenefic Posts: 8,160 ✭✭✭✭✭

Hello Everyone

Another ebay SNAFU... I purchased a coin on April 30th from an ebay seller that turned out to be local (zipcode within a 30 minute drive). The Tracking feature in ebay notified me when the shipping label was produced on 5/2... but then there haven't been any updates since... USPS is still awaiting the package. I contacted the seller a few days ago and he told me that he took 10 packages to USPS on 5/2 and that he seen delays before where the USPS hasn't updated Tracking and the package just miraculously shows up a few days later. I've had that happen before as well, but the USPS has had the item "in-hand" for those instances. "Shipping" was akin to Pony Express... took ~2weeks to get here... but those packages ultimately arrived. In this instance, the seller is pointing fingers at USPS and USPS is pointing to the seller... I'm sort of an afterthought in the whole process, but I'm the one out money!

So, what are my options? The seller doesn't accept returns but I never got anything to return. The USPS can't initiate a trace on a package they never received... I'm sort of "out here" on this one. Has anyone on the Forum ever had to deal with this? Thanks in advance... Best, Leo

It's very simple. File "Item not received" through eBay. The lack of a scan hurts the sender not you.

Thanks! I'll wait until the end of the week before I take any action. I have seen packages take a long time to get here. Once they're at the local PO though, I usually see they're "Out for Delivery" the next day. I'll look for the "Item not Received" option in eBay. Thanks! L

My bet is that he did not take it to the PO or he just dropped it off without making sure it got scanned.

As previously mentioned, it's his problem, not yours.

I once had a similar issue where the package never showed up. The seller tried to claim the issue was with my PO, but there was no scan. I got refunded.

I take all of my packages to the post office myself and get a scanned receipt for all of them. The less hands that touch them the better I like it and I want buyers to get their purchases ASAP, as I know that I like to also when I'm a buyer.

Don’t wait to file the item not received request through eBay because their system gives the seller 3 business days to respond, which basically bleeds itself into an entire calendar week. File the form the first day ebay will let you to get the ball rolling. If it starts moving in the postal system, fine, but don’t wait.

An item that I won off of eBay went from "awaiting package" on the 14th of last month to "arrived at regional destination facility" yesterday and was delivered today. The seller said that he sent it out on the 15th but with no prior transaction history between us I filed an "item not received" with eBay the day after the expected arrival period passed. Since the item finally reappeared and made it to me I notified the seller and he has talked to eBay to get the refund reversed.

  • Im an eBay seller and sell many coins along with household items. Ive had this happen several times this year and yes the packages do show but USPS does not update the travels of said package which is discouraging on both ends. The seller did the right thing and mailed the package when he/she said but its not updating in the system and the buyer is upset because its not showing up and there is no tracking, Here is the issue, once the package leaves our hands and we drop at USPS, both of us are at the mercy of the postal system. Ive spoken to my local postmaster and she has told me the same thing, they're updating their system and they're shorthanded which is causing delays. I have asked my buyers to be patient and give it some time, most are accommodating and understand, however some are not. eBay does allow some leeway when it comes to packages arriving and will generally give a couple of weeks.
I would give the package another few days, I'm sure the seller is not running a scam if they have many reviews and been in business for a while, however newer sellers I'm wary of. Just be patient and give it some time. Best of luck mate.

Yep, I've had the same thing happen. It causes a lot of anxiety but in the end the packages were OK.

One in every 20 or so packages does not have a scan for days if you drop the packages in the intake chute....I guess it argues to wait in line at the po which can be a pita. I don't know whether getting a scan at the post office affects subsequent scans as their system is supposed to scan everything that can be scanned.

I has one package just scan after a week. So you might want to wait for more time for the package to get scan or delivery.

I have had many weird things happen over the last 20-25 years but all packages have arrived in the end and I do mean every single package made it that is 1000's of packages of all sorts of things like dvd's books and so on.

Thats why I take every one of my packages to the PO myself, and have them scanned, some of the post offices around here dont like doing more than a couple, so i go across town where they dont mind, every single day. Monday, and especially tuesday's after a holiday , I have a bunch, sometimes 30+

I have had many of the ESUS tracking with little or no updates. I assume some have arrived because feedback left.

The ESUS eBay shipping labels are a mess, I have had some deliver which were never scanned, others which were scanned as received and never updated. Most of the time they are scanned as delivered the day they leave the local distribution center (in my case, White Plains) but do not actually hit my mailbox for another 1-2 days.

I had one seller recently ask me to send a photo of the delivered envelope after it took 11 days to move from Maine to Connecticut with no scans. He said he was dealing with a few chargebacks and was taking it up with both eBay and his local PO.

What's odd about this particular transaction is that the seller is literally across town... why this particular package out the many I usually get (and send) hassle free. Just bizarre. What sucks is that I really want the coin!

Here's a new USPS FUBAR for me at least. I received 2 signature required packages on Thursday that were left on my front porch without even as much as the mailman ringing the doorbell and the tracking said that I had signed for them which definitely wasn't the case. I debated on whether or not to call to complain because I was worried that I would face some sort of retribution but decided on letting them know what happened.

Fast forward to today and I was expecting to get in a Morgan. The item never showed but just a bit ago new tracking info popped up claiming that I had picked it up at the post office at 8:23 PM. Has anyone else had this happen to them and were you able to reason with the post office that you in fact did not pick up the item? I hope that logically they would agree with me that I would not be able to pick up the item over 8 hours after the USPS location closed but you never know.

Sorry to hear about all these issues. I've had a disappointment or two, but not lately.

I sent a submission to ANACS last week. The tracking estimated four days, which was pretty darn good for delivery to the other side of the country by Ground Advantage. Boy did they get it wrong. It was delivered in three days. 😲

My best USPS ground advantage story was that a package from Heritage (180 miles west of me in Texas) went to Minneapolis and then went back and forth between the Minneapolis and St. Paul regional facilities 2-3 times a day for 3 weeks. But the awesome Heritage customer service folks got to the bottom of it and got it extracted from the infinite loop. It was stuck to another package, so somebody in St. Paul was going through the same pain along with me. :(

I purchased a coin back in February, it didn't arrive in March so I did get a refund.
Well it showed up yesterday, May 11th. so I'll mail back tomorrow.

Yesterday an envelope arrived twenty-nine days late, it had been marked delivered. Month-late packages and envelopes plagued me last year. I am patient anymore because all arrive later (I had not yet contacted the seller over six dollars).
A good resource is a motivated carrier who looks around the building; she found three in random bins. I convinced a person on the phone to figure out that a package had churned between Alaska and Idaho a dozen times and that someone try to stop it and fix it. That bit helped me when the same thing happened shortly after.
I use neon color somewhere on the package, and send a photo to the buyer so that he describes it well if it goes awry on his end.

Thanks for the anecdotes... collectively, there's a bit of a pattern. My package was supposed to have been delivered a week ago tomorrow. As I mentioned, this is odd since the seller is just a couple of zipcodes away. I think I've given it plenty of time and since the PO hasn't even ogged the package in as being received, I'll go ahead with an "Item not delivered" in eBay... hopefully, the package will come and I can work it out with the seller if it ever does arrive because, I still really want the coin...

See this all the time when a seller isn't happy with a sale price. They'll just mark it as shipped and wait for you to dispute to get your $ back. Waste of everybody's time.

I can see this happening. Especially in this case...

edited to add: I guess I'll keep tabs on his future offerings, as well as, the particular coin itself... it should be relatively easy to spot...

Its worth a phone call, but my last registered package from West Coast to East Coast didn't update from sending for 10 days, then was in Colorado for 21 days with no update, I called and asked them to check on it. four days later, it was in Georgia, with no update for 3.5 weeks, until all of a sudden arrived in my clients PO Box, BEFORE it said it had arrived. Registered mail has no updated tracking, it is only hand signed with no scan, so tracking info with registered it 100% hit or miss. Hope that helps a little bit (if for nothing else, a few minutes more of sleep!).
