A Complete Catalog of Every Dansco Album Ever Made [291 Albums]

Below is a catalog of every Dansco album that has ever made [That I am aware of]. This list includes custom albums made for coin shops and dealers, variants like Littleton & Franklin Mint, Coin Clubs & Associations, Tokens, etc.

It took hundreds of hours of research to track these albums down. But this should serve as the most comprehensive catalog of Dansco albums online.

I own most of these albums and I am working to catalog my entire collection including photos and detailed notes for each album. That post will come out hopefully by the end of the year. If you would like to see my previous catalog and photos, check out my
April 2023 post.

Hope this helps!

:open_mouth: where did you find this?!

that is a lot of different albums - what a list

I do not see the prestige collector series Eisenhower by Littleton Braddick is currently selling

Cool thread to catalog these. Have you considered variants? Many albums have different titles line "Indian Cents" and "Indian Cents 1857-1909" etc. Also, there are page variants. Some Indian cent albums include the 69/69 and some don't.

Great post and very impressive that you have most of the albums on the list.

Even more impressive would be having each of your albums completely filled with the required coins.

Littleton in collaberation with Dansco also produced this one for Franklin halves:

Disappointed that they don't have anything at all for Canadian half dollars or Newfoundland coins.

Agree. A bit off topic, but there are Library of Coins albums for Newfoundland - and Whitman for Newfoundland type set.

  • BarberianBarberian Posts: 3,573 ✭✭✭✭✭

I bought an old Whitman folder for Canadian halves. It holds coins well with a little Scotch tape.

Thanks! I'll keep an eye out for LOC Newfoundland albums or generic Canadian half dollar and silver dollar albums.

Completely filled? HA! If only I had a million dollars. But I'm proud to say many US albums post 1964 are fully filled, as well as many foreign type set albums.> @davewesen said:

I didn't break out the Prestige Series into its separate category as Littleton had other Dansco albums as well. But they are included in the list with the moniker [Littleton Version]. But when I create my update post with photos, I may break out the Prestige Series.

I do consider and collect variants! I did not include them in this list, but when I make my update post with photos later this year, I'll list out the variants.

I do not see the Eisenhower (Littleton) - which is completely different than the Eisenhower Danscos as it is only 1 page and includes a space for a medal.

Does the list include the earlier Dansco's before slides?

  • OAKSTAROAKSTAR Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭✭✭

Well, it's not an album but a custom page I made for the back of my 7070. You should add custom pages made by collectors to your list. 😉 Not the best pictures but you get the point.

I should start a: "Post Your Custom Album Pages" thread.

It does not! My later post will include a catalog and photos of those earlier Dansco folders.

  • AlbumNerdAlbumNerd Posts: 193 ✭✭✭

I remember that thread! It actually inspired me to make my own custom pages [with labels]. I do have one uncut Dansco page. I've always wondered what I should make out of it...

Off topic but there are Whitman Bookshelf albums for Canadian Halves and for a Newfoundland type set, the former is not that hard to find, the latter is pretty scarce and has been selling for crazy money lately when offered.

Incomplete planchets wanted, especially Lincoln Cents & type coins.

Pardon if I'm missing it. What are the blank album Cat. #'s. I've taken to buying the " blank " Dansco albums and labeling them myself. Wa La !!! Custom albums the way I want them. Now if Dansco would get back up and running again. Sitting on Proof & Mint sets for my moderns from the last couple years and no place to put them. I refuse to pay $ 30 for 1 blank page. Yes, I know, supply & demand.

You can also do quite well purchasing the blank Dansco albums and blank Dansco pages and 'printing' your own.

    Nice work compiling this list!
I feel like I have had, at one time or another, about 75% of the US listing here!
I am amazed at the foreign offering, much broader than I expected.

My coins fell out of Whitman folders. Scotch tape is not an option there.

I've seen both of the LOC and Whitman albums. What I'd like would be unlabeled Whitman or Dansco albums for Canadian halves and for Newfoundland halves. They are slightly different diameters - 29.85 mm for Newfies, 29.72 mm for Canadian halves.

A Capital holder for Newfy halves would be nice.

I don't believe Dansco makes blank pages for Canadian or Newfoundland halves.

I bought an old Whitman folder for Canadian halves. It holds coins well with a little Scotch tape.

Thanks! I'll keep an eye out for LOC Newfoundland albums or generic Canadian half dollar and silver dollar albums.

Off topic but there are Whitman Bookshelf albums for Canadian Halves and for a Newfoundland type set, the former is not that hard to find, the latter is pretty scarce and has been selling for crazy money lately when offered.

There is a Bookshelf album titled "Canadian Halves Miscellaneous", if you can find one, that would work. It is the older style album with the slides, not the flat cardboard folder:

    @braddick

I believe it's covered under ** Sets, Series, & Currency** as "The Congressional Treasury Collection [Custom]".

Here are photos showing the inside of the album. Does it match what you have?

@Mr_Spud What you have there is a very special album. In fact, I don't have that one! I have the Lincoln Cents one instead. I don't know much about these albums, but there are some things I can infer from my other research. The copyright is 1946, only 9 years after the company was formed and only 6 years after the current Bruce family took over.

These loose-leaf coin albums appear to the be very first Dansco 'albums' ever made. They basically took individual pages from their folders and spiral-bound them. After these 1946 albums were made, Dansco did not create any page-bounded albums until they purchased the rights to the Continental Line series from Ervin J. Felix in the late 1960's.

These loose-leaf albums are extremely rare, especially in good condition. I was only able to get my current collection of them when I purchased them from David Lange's estate.

Do you mind sharing a picture of what the spine looks like?

    @AlbumNerd

Yes, the album I purchased has those exact pages.
When it arrives I hope to actually fill it with commemoratives I have already.
It should make for an interesting presentation.

Sure, I’ll try and take pictures of the spine tonight. I know the spine is taped over with clear tape to hold it onto the cover better, so not in the best shape.

    Thank you @Mr_Spud!

Comparing your album to mine, here are some things I noticed.

    Similarities

    • 9 Spiral Rings
    • Same wording and logo used on the intro page
    • Both albums used 4 pins in the spine
    • No wording on the spine

    Differences

    • My album used a plastic binder, while yours was a hard paperback
    • My album is brown while yours is turquoise

It's odd that both albums were printed in 1946, but had different materials for the binder. I suspect this inconsistency + this being the earliest album I've found that Dansco has printed, indicates this was a time of experimentation for Dansco.

Here are photos of my Quarter's loose-leaf pages album

On the thinking that 1946 was a time of album experimentation for Dansco, I also have this album under the "Wonder" series. It appears to have the same hard paperback binder and spine as the album you showed, but the pages are radically different. This is the first album where the holes were punched through. A movable plastic vinyl cover is on each page and can be removed to temporarily expose the top to push the coin in. To my knowledge, this is the first Dansco album with full push-through ports.

I love how DANSCO back in 1946 referred to cents as pennies.

Cool. So I’m guessing the album pages from the experimental period might have used the same sequential numbers with 6 pages per denomination. Maybe their earlier Folders have the same page numbers? 🧐

    100-105 are for “Pennies”
    106-111 are for Nickels
    112-117 are for Dimes (probably)
    118-123 are for Quarters
124-130 are for Half Dollars (probably)
    131-137 are for Dollars (Maybe)

I think I’ll look through my Numismatic Scrapbooks from that era this weekend and see if I can find any Dansco Ads for their Folders and also for their Loose Leaf Albums. I have the Numismatic Scrapbooks from the beginning all the way through the end of 1946 so good chance I’ll find something

I do not see the prestige collector series Eisenhower by Littleton Braddick is currently selling

Littleton in collaberation with Dansco also produced this one for Franklin halves:

Now this album is too cool!

Are you sure you want to open the pandora's box that is Dansco's cataloging system

Here is a photo of the paper attachment in a 1946 Dansco Folder for Lincoln Pennies

As you can see, the folders' catalog numbers only go up to 2 digits.

What befuddled me is the info shown on later page inserts for Dansco folders made later in the 1950's. On the front page shows the same info in the photo above. But on the back page it shows info for a "Dansco Deluxe 'ALL IN ONE' coin albums"

I have no idea what albums/folders these are referencing [Album manufacturers had a habit of calling all coin folders "albums"]. The numbers shown here do not correspond to specific pages as shown in the 1946 albums. The early 'prototype' albums I have don't have a number attached to the entire album itself. Only each page is assigned a number.
