Probably kept it for himself once he saw the toning.
Collectors pay crazy money for toning. I myself find toning quite eye appealing but have never gone near those amounts for it. Not sure on this one how I lean, would have to see it in hand.
Flip it over,,,,, put it back in the bezel for another 50 yrs and you might have something.
