Thursday One Day Only CSNS Visit
I showed up shortly after 9:00a to do some lot viewing before the doors opened. There were a couple of high-end lots that were quite nice but the majority of lots that I intended to bid on were fairly underwhelming.
I picked up my name tag quickly without having to stand in line as I purchased my ticket in advance. As soon as the doors opened I started browsing inventory.
Overall, I had a fantastic time with friends and coin people. But on the numismatic front it was a moderately frustrating and unsuccessful day. I was looking for chop marked trade dollars, world gold, and potentially a $50 slug as I recently lost out on one in an auction. The selection of world coins was pretty underwhelming compared to FUN and ANA. Came close to buying a slug but otherwise couldn't really find a single other coin of interest and I was done walking the bourse by 2:00 p.m. Had a nice chat with @Regulated and @MrEureka
I noticed a lot of tables that were wholesale only and many of the dealers were proactively asking if I was selling, which I've never experienced before. There must be a dearth of quality coins available as I saw a lot of attractive type coins flying out of the cases, both retail and wholesale.
I dropped off some coins with our host and then spent the afternoon helping out @numismattack and reviewing coins with @DeplorableDan . Had an okay steak dinner at Chicago Prime with a group of us from the show.. no pictures but I saw @ThePennyLady holding court so presumably she'll provide her customary amazing review in a few days.
My one purchase was this very neat Trade Dollar turned into a Whist Counter (Whist was a card game that eventually evolved into Bridge).

Nice report!
I noticed several of the wholesale only tables too (I recall seeing some at prior shows). I think one show they were all consolidated in the same area as opposed to being spread out, which seemed to make more sense.
I saw one chopped Japanese Yen at a table but it didn't look particularly interesting.
Curious - how does one know if a table is wholesale only, no cases?
Empty cases, lots of boxes. I was also explicitly told a couple of times "This is only a buying show for us". Never heard that before.

Some had signs that said wholesale only at the table.
How was your experience behind the table for numisattack?
"Got a flaming heart, can't get my fill"
For the most part, it was a lot of fun. Granted, I had no skin in the game, I was mostly just showing coins to potential purchasers and chit-chatting, so no pressure. I would happily do it again (and probably will at ANA) although as a natural introvert I was wiped out. I don't know these dealers do this every single day.
There was some old fashioned coin show smelliness and rudeness but very little. Numismattack is from SF, CA so some visitors decided that the best way to start a conversation was to spout uninformed and incorrect opinions about San Francisco and California but that is to be expected given the demographics of the hobby.

I don't know why that made me laugh to myself, but it did.
Thanks for sharing this report.
Nice to see you out of jail too.

Thanks for the report. I thought about going but did not. Probably best, if there were not many chopmarked Trade Dollars available!

Thanks for posting your report.
You had me for a moment when I looked at that CACG Stella, followed by “I picked up…”, which then forced me to read more carefully lol!
