Received in change yesterday, wow

Going through my change bowl and found this: 1937 S Mercury Dime. Unreal. Somebody's Grandpa is missing a coin or coins, I would think. Hasn't been in circulation long this time round as too void of dings and scratches.

Any more it is impossible or very close to that to get a coin older than me in change. Long, long gone are the days of silver in my pocket change.

It's been about 40+ years for me too since I got a mercury dime in change.
I was at a Circle K bought a soda and candy heading to the community pool with friends.
Received a couple dimes in change and :o asked the clerk if there were more and he looked and said yes.
He set them aside and I had to go home to get more money.
There were a couple kids in playing the pinball machine and they had brought them in exchanged them for quarters.
Talking to the clerk the kids had been there all morning playing the game, had left and returned with the dimes...before that they came in with quarters and went straight to the machine
The guy that serviced those machines probably scored some nice silver quarters.

I had a Mom&Pop's hardware/beer/gas/grocery/feed store in the 80's, so I got plenty of them then, especially the tough years in 80 and 84(mines shut down, strikes and layoffs in the coal fields), but only a 1920 Merc in change in the last 10 years. A few Roosies now and then.

Not a particularly common date to find even sixty years ago. Highly unusual find today!

Excellent find! 👍 Change I receive would never make it to my pocket or a change bowl without being checked first...............unless I didn't have my glasses. ;) Although, I would hear that silver dime in change.

Closest silver coin,or part silver, has been 2 warnicks at a casino a few years back when cashing out my voucher. Nice score for you. 30 years ago got a silver quarter with a payout on a 25 cent slot machine, when coins still came out for your payoff. Such a distinct sound when it hit the metal coin tray.

That used to be a bottle of coke and two pretzel sticks for me last semester.
The second pretzel went down dry because it was bought with the 2 cent deposit return
    Nice find!

I recalled hearing news of the "Great American Coin Hunt" activity in recent years, where collectors and dealers released rare coins into circulation. I tend to wonder if that's the source of some of the interesting CRH / circulation finds I hear about. https://www.greatamericancoinhunt.com/
