Belichick bashers and non-fans of the NFL draft need not open this thread

Not much here really new to those who have been been following the NFL draft for a long time. However it was interesting hearing the GOAT's perspective on the details. His live analysis on Thursday of the players as well as team drafting strategies should be interesting as well.

I think they said this was Belichick's first live appearance since leaving the Patriots.

It's good to hear from him, I can't believe he's not going to be coaching next year, it isn't right. Hopefully Jerry will hire him after the Cowboys stink it up in the playoffs next season, if they even make the playoffs.

I am convinced Jerry will never do anything beneficial in terms of team personnel decisions at this point. Belichick would never be a fit in Dallas as long as ego driven Jerry is at the helm unfortunately. It is a nice thought but will never happen.

    Stubborn Jerry!

It was cool seeing Belichick in a relaxed setting, free from the pressures of NFL football. It's quite obvious why, in his prime, he led the Patriots to all those titles. He is without question much smarter than virtually all NFL coaches out there. Nobody explains the game of football better than Bill Belichick.

Will an NFL owner give him a chance? Anything is possible, but I just don't see it happening only because of his age. Yes he sounds lucent and sharp as ever. The problem is an old man doing the NFL head coaching grind, would of course have an impact on his cognizant abilities.

So despite him being very impressive in the video, and likely as well on Thursday, probably all NFL owners realize that he would not be able to keep up that level of concentration over the course of an NFL season. Resulting in mistakes that would get his team beat.

I'd advise Belichick to just officially retire from NFL football, and stay in a capacity in media such as what he is doing on Thursday. Perhaps spot duty in broadcasting big games, etc.

This sounds like a rational assessment but the lure of that coaching record is going to pull him back in I bet.

Oh I totally agree with ya. Belichick would return to coaching in a heartbeat if offered a position. He has already made it clear that he would be satisfied with just the coaching, that the GM duties could be relegated to somebody else.

My premise is if that happened, I think it would basically be doomed for failure. At his age, this rigorous job of head coach would wear him down to the point of exhaustion. Does he really need the aggravation like this at his age? But you're right, the lure would be too great, he would likely try it anyway.

I highly doubt anyone is going to give him a HC job, he wants too much control and all the owners want to finally stick it back at him for the 20 year rampage he went on

I read with the Falcons interview, Belichick wasn't even in the top three for consideration, or something like that. Somebody from the Falcons may have leaked that out.

no NFL franchise worth its salt is going to hire Bill Belichick. after the greatest quarterback of all time left, BB drove New England directly into the ground. he had years to rebuild and reload, yet the roster he left behind was virtually devoid of talent. a team would be crazy to bring him in at this juncture...............the game has passed him by, and a 22-yr-old Tom Brady will not be walking through that door

the good news for him is that there are desperate, moribund franchises that might overlook the aforementioned and give him a shot. best of luck with that

I normally don't like doing hypotheticals, because one can go nuts figuring all the what ifs throughout history, including sports. Such as what if the Red Sox hadn't sold Babe Ruth, and on and on. So that being said, I don't like what I'm about to post, but I'll post it anyway.

If the Cowboys this upcoming season get off to say an 0-4 start, and of course Jerry Jones throws a hissy fit, I could envision a scenario whereby he quickly fires Mike McCarthy, and hires Bill Belichick as head coach with a one season contract.

Vegas might give odds of 1,000 to 1 of this happening. But I'd sure enjoy seeing the Cowboys get off to an 0-4 start, and see if it happens. 😆

Belichick is live on the Pat McAfee Draft show.

That's the draft show I watched. I thought Belichick did a fine job.

I happen to agree with Belichick's premise that all these first round QB's need a lot of work. In my opinion, none of them are a winning NFL QB right now.

We shall see how they grow in training camp, and how they do in the pre-season games, for a better indication of their future NFL success.

One thing all of these struggling teams did right, whether ya like it or not, if ya truly want to win a Super Bowl, ya have to gamble and take a chance with a high draft pick QB as they did. So they were all wise in that aspect.

Unless it's an obvious stud, and none of these QB's are that, drafted QB's are always a gamble. We shall see which team or teams get lucky.

I watched it too, steve and I gotta say Bill fit right in with that group of knuckleheads especially that fake Mad Mel Kiper dude lol.

I'm not to worried about Bill's opinion on all of these young QBs when everything he said was pretty much known before then. Bill would have taken the best pass rusher had he any say in the matter and part of his thinking is why he was commentating from the sidelines and not making the actual picks.

I do hope that he's on the PM show again tonight. If he doesn't find a HC job in the near future he should definitely try calling games. Give me a Brady/Belichick telecast all day!
