Don't hear much about him around here, one of my favorites.

Larry Csonka was the first NFL running back in history to receive an unnecessary roughness penalty while carrying the ball, for knocking out Bills safety John Pitts with this brutal forearm to the head.
He is a HOF RB for a reason lol
He definitely doesn't get mentioned enough, Riggins was the same
Earl Campbell was the most punishing though
Riggins and Campbell are two of my favorites as well, Campbell was definitely the most punishing. This is still one of the all-time great highlights in NFL history.
Campbell just gores him.
As a young Steelers fan in the late 70s and 80s, Earl Campbell scared the crap out of me - he just seemed so unstoppable and able to inflict real pain (and injury) at any moment. Too young to see Csonka, and Riggins being in the NFC didn’t carry the same impact on me as Campbell.

hey Dble D...
Outstanding Video Footage...
Oh Yeah...Pretty Cool...
Some great choices made.
Not quite as punishing as those mentioned, but punishing when needed, I think Walter Payton could be added to the list.

I chose that Csonka video on purpose, it's a perfect blend of old school football and music.
My brothers and I used to tear the covers off si and tack them to the wall, including this one … tsk tsk Mr csonka kids are going to be seeing that photo 😱
Awesome SI cover, love that image of Csonka sitting there with the slick hair and mustache, he's very unassuming, looking at that image you would never think Csonka was such a rough guy.
This is another one of my favorites, the image of Bob Griese turned around, having just handed the ball to Csonka.
Nigerian Nightmare
Except he’s flipping off the whole world.
That is insane, I've never even noticed that! 😂😂
Look Marion Motley up sometime, played for the Browns with Otto Graham, a 238 pound punishing back, he also played linebacker and was a great blocker. He was probably the best all around football player in the league during his time, and one of the greatest ever period. Career average of 5.7 per carry.
That was my next entry DD, good work!
I'm on top of it. 👍
Natrone Means
Marion Butts
this is a thread about punishing running backs, correct?

Chuck Muncie was a powerhouse!
I already posted this and only got 1 like. So how the yell did you get 4 likes already for my idea?
I'm "seriously" thinking that the voting on this forum is rigged.
I just gave your post a "like" just to hiss myself off even more. 😉
I got you Steve, I totally breezed over it, looking at the pics! lol
hey ya Landry....
Cool video 🎥🎥🎥
I actually gave your post a like as well, you owe me. Have a nice day.
Thank you Jerry.
I went back and gave you a like Steve!
A squeaky wheel gets the oil. 😆
I would have hated seeing this dude coming at me…..
i was so flummoxed that i inadvertently glossed over your mention of Payton
thank you for restoring my faith in humanity, and i just gave you a big ol' like

I'm from Philly and they don't teach us much in school, plus we have a bad reputation when it comes to treatment of other sports fans. So I had to google to see what that one word meant.
That's nice, now I know what "humanity" means. 😉
39th post to this thread, and I'm the first one to mention Jim Brown?
Steve
Shocking actually, I can't believe I forgot to post him as I was putting in guys like Means and Butts lol
Jim Brown has said Motley was better than him.

Larry Csonka was a large part of why the 1972 Miami Dolphins are the greatest team of all-time in the NFL. I know many members will disagree with that and not like that I said it, but no other team in the long and storied annals of the NFL has been able to do what they did. All other teams, no matter the greatness of the Coaches or individual players, have been able to go an entire regular season without losing and then go on to win the championship.
All other teams have lost at least one game during the season or in the playoffs.
Csonka DESTROYED my Vikings the next year in the SB. He was a stud.
That Earl Campbell play from above would probably be a penalty today, because he was leading with the crown of his helmet.
Terry Bradshaw was AMAZING!!
