This coin was not like this years ago when I purchased it and none of my other buffalo nickels toned like this if at all. I just don't like it, now. What do you think?

Hard to tell from that photo. Did it tone in a TPG slab?
I like the reverse more then the other side, jmo
Not really a fan.

No, toned in a Littleton Album which none of the others did the same. Was without toning when placed in the album some 6 or more years ago.

I like the gold tone, just not the brown that's starting to cover it.

So this Buff was stored in the same album with the others. So we know it wasn't the environment where you stored them. Maybe the metal alloy or it's composition. Planchet alloy can vary. Did you give it an acetone bath before you put it in the album?

Maybe someone dipped it prior to you obtaining it and it was more reactive than the others that were put into the same album.

I did not give it an acetone bath before placing it in the album.
No way of knowing what previous actions were done before I got it.
Thanks for everyones thoughts.

I kinda like it, but as others have mentioned, it may get darker.
To me, the toning is neither ugly nor attractive.

Neutral wouldn’t stop me from buying it if I wanted it.
I would give it an acetone bath to stabilize the coin. Otherwise looks like a nice coin to me and I suspect the photos make it look darker than it is. That is actually a decent strike for a 35-S
I did give it an acetone bath as soon as I removed it. Wish I was aware of acetone when I placed the coins in the album. Not worried about the others as they have not toned that I can see. Thank you for your kind comment, but I still hate it and have replaced it. I may send it to PCGS as I still have my 8 coin voucher and see what they say. I think it would lower the grade. But that's my opinion.
Again, thank you.

Well if you are brave you can try to carefully lighten it up with some MS-70. Or have PCGS lighten it up via restoration.
Could this coin be submitted under my voucher and have the restoration done(at my cost) utilizing the same submission form. I have never utilized an additional request on a voucher before, so not sure of the rules. Just for information purposes, can I submit on the same voucher form for an attribution(at my cost)? Thank you

The toning bothers me less (none actually) than the mushy obverse.
Would probably pass on it. Others might just discount offer (lowball heck outta them - more pct behind behind CDN bid).
Robby has what he calls the good, the bad, and the ugly offering various pct behind CDN bid.
The coin looks dull and lifeless to me. Would have to see the coin better to judge it correctly.
More likely foreign substance on the surface than an alloy difference.
I added a light, but this is good as I am capable without a stand and I'm trying to cut some trees down while I have my son helping and me before he leaves and I shouldn't be here on the computer lol. Like I said, it's not a favorite coin but isn't dull and lifeless to me, just terrible toning. Thanks all for your posts.
