CAC Sticker Submission Results: better than expected!

P0CKETCHANGEP0CKETCHANGE Posts: 2,560 ✭✭✭✭✭

I sent a small nine coin submission to CAC that was returned last week, and I was very pleased with the results. Five coins received green stickers, an over 50% success rate. Yes, it's a small sample size, but it's my most successful to date.

Here are the coins that beaned. Any and all comments (positive or otherwise) are welcome on the coins; I am posting this as an informative/learning exercise and would love some discussion on the results.

1932-D Washington Quarter AU58+
This was a Winter FUN pickup that filled the key date slot in my WQ set. PCGS Pop is a mere 6 coins in AU58+, and CAC has stickered 62 in the 58 grade (~4.3% rate on PCGS+NGC Pop); it very well may be the only CAC approved 58+ out there.

1926 Peace Dollar MS65
This coin failed CAC in a previous MS65 holder. I sent it for a PCGS Regrade, it came back a 65 with a new holder number, and this time it beaned at CAC. If at first you don't succeed, try try again? CAC Pop in 65: 175

1972-S Silver Eisenhower MS68
Picked this up at a small local show for $100. These 68s can be all over the place in terms of quality, and a nice one really stands out. The bean made the small show well worth the effort. CAC Pop in 68: 196

1977-D Eisenhower MS66
Snagged this one on eBay. Not a pricey coin, but the price jump to a 67 is massive and 66 is the top pop at CAC. Between that and the OGH, this was a big win for a small price. CAC Pop in 66: 41, none higher (and no gold stickers).

1904 Liberty Double Eagle MS63
I sent this lovely lady to CMQ first where she stickered, then offered on the BST, and sent it to CAC when she didn't sell. I wonder how many CMQ-stickered coins CAC has seen, and what the reaction has been. No longer for sale :)

That 72-S Ike looks like a solid 68, unlike so many I see that are not. Good strike with very minimal spotting and what looks like no haze. Very nice! 👍🏻

Having fun while switching things up and focusing on a next level PCGS slabbed 1950+ type set, while still looking for great examples for the 7070.

That's the average. The range is wide. A lot has to do with the coin type and age.

I was just at their website to check on series they sticker and found this

Q: What percentage of coins CAC reviews sticker?
A: As of April 1, 2023, CAC has stickered approximately 43% of the coins received.

    Nice sub!
I like the Peace Dollar and the MS 68 Ike...great luster and minimal contact marks on both of those; they certainly shine.

    Nice grouping.
The 43% they do approve consists of the cherry picked top 5% from collectors collections.
I mean, certainly your selections were not random. What was your main focus, under graded coins or rather coins that are solid for the grade?
Or just coins that really stand out?

Not necessarily. That may be true for dealers who do comprise the most of CAC's market. However, there are collectors with worse success stories who submitted coins thinking they had A and B coins.

Good success rate for CAC. All good looking coins. I am starting a set of top pop CAC Ike dollars (Proof and Mint State) if you have any spares you would like to sell. Or can you suggest any dealers that handle them. I have not traded on the forum yet but can give references. Thank you

This submission was just my most recently acquired (non-CAC) coins. They weren’t cherry-picked from my collection, as most of my other coins have already made the trip to CAC. You could say they were cherry-picked for quality at the time of purchase, as I try to only open my wallet for coins that are eye appealing and nice for the grade.

    Well, there it is @P0CKETCHANGE
Eye appealing and nice for the grade. It would seem most of my coins are nice for the grade considering how tight PCGS can be.

I don’t think CAC was accepting many moderns when I joined a few years back. I’ll need to visit their site again to see what I can send in.

Sounds like a fun endeavor. I am considering pursuing Ikes as well, now that I have these two (and a proof). Seems like an interesting series with multiple types, metal compositions, finishes, etc. Good luck.
