    Will PCGS slab a coin where the date can't be determined? If so, I'll guess 1916-D since that's the only date that makes sense to pay the grading fee for a coin with that much wear.

    I can't see the last digit in the date. Perhaps PCGS used the mintmark position to identify the date.
