RIP Jerry Grote

Hard news to get today. Grote was so integral to the Mets transformation into a WS winner.

He will be missed.

Starting catcher for the Miracle Mets who began his career with the Houston Colt 45s…

Johnny Bench once said of Jerry Grote, "If Grote and I were on the same team, I would be playing third base." That's quite high praise from the GOAT catcher.

The Mets won their first World Series in 1969. I'm sure most Mets fans would agree that probably wouldn't have happened without Jerry Grote behind home plate.

    RIP

Johnny must have been talking about defense...Grote's offensive numbers sure were below average

Another Met, Pat Zachary, passed this week too.
