Another Left-Hand Batting Aaron...

mintonlyplsmintonlypls Posts: 2,014 ✭✭✭✭✭

I just perused the current REA and noticed for the first time that Topps had Hank Aaron batting left handed in the NL Batting Leaders...geez, you would think by 1964 that Topps would have it right as in right handed. Topps ruined what would have been Hammerin Hank's most beautiful card in 1957, too!

I like the registration producing an exceptionally sharp image on the Gibby…centering should preclude an 8 though.

My first though was Topps reusing his '57 photo, but it's obviously not as Hank has aged a bit and rounded out

You think that's weird, how about this guy who is called "Lefty" even though he pitches right handed!

good catch, I never even noticed hank batting lefty on that leaders card.

other than centering, which is right on the line, that gibby looks sharp.

Typical 75/25 on an "8" for the Gibson.

    Not because of centering.
I measure 32 top / 68 bottom, 33 left / 67 right at their worst points given the slight tilt.
Low end because of centering eye appeal but within 8 parameters.

    A slider 8…

    I measure.

    38/62 L/R
    32/68 T/B

note sure how we got different numbers, but I used the smallest distance on the "short side" vs. the "opposing point distance to edge" on the opposite logical side.

    SGC 8 spec.
    65/35 or better centering.

It's close, but I think the assertion that it shouldn't be an 8 based on the grading standard is right on. I wouldn't have thought too much about this being a SGC 7 or 8 though. It looks real nice. I suppose the moral of the story is that it's within a few pixels of 65/35.

Having both directions “way off” makes it hurt the eyes…not eye appealing, for sure.

I wouldn’t buy it but the registration is really strong on it.

    Registration is sharp…

    They can't all be 8.5
