Today, I'm picking up a Half Dollar Box...PART 2...

Hi guys,
Yes, I am picking up a Half Dollar Box at a NEW unfamiliar bank! My first try at this bank.
Why do we always think, "This Can be the ONE?"
πŸ˜†
Just because we try a bank we never went to before. Why do we think this? Is it just psychological or a true basis?
How many of you guys were actually successful in this new visit?
Thanks πŸ˜‰

Good luck! Truthfully, like the lottery, there is no better "store" to buy it at. Each opportunity seemingly has the same chance. Glad you have the passion to keep searching. Its a tough effort but a fun one just the same!

Joey, just curious, because you've come a long way here with your understanding of coins, not of which was always appreciated in the beginning, but you plowed through and are a respected poster because of it. I have a question.

With the numismatic knowledge you have acquired with all your searching and such, are you collecting numismatically interesting coins at this point (not for buying/resell etc.). Im curious, have you found a series you enjoy and are starting to collect that series in a numismatic way? I would think at this point it would be welcomed for you to start showing how your collecting/collection is building and what your continued involvement in coins has led you to an area of interest. I think we don't have enough of that on this forum, mostly it's "what do you think about this", "did I find a rare coin" etc.

Im wondering if after all these years and posts that you have focused on an area of collecting that interest you?

edited to add...if you have said this before and Ive missed it (Im pretty specialized in coins so I don't open every thread) I apologize. Just love when collectors show growth and enjoyment with the hobby, and I think that growth should be shown and enjoyed by us all, which I think the group loves to hear about!

Hope springs eternal optimism. If you don't try, you'll never know. I'm constantly looking for and hitting unfamiliar banks and credit unions during my travels. I would say, I'm successful 50% of the time. Sometime you need an account, sometimes you don't.

Some banks I hit say; No sorry, you need an account!...........I'll go back to that same bank 2 or 3 months later and I'll get coins from a different teller. It all depends on what you say, how you say it and the teller you get.

I was getting a box weekly from a bank for almost a year. I knew them and they knew me. No problem, right??...
One day one of the managers approached me...........You do have an account here, right? No, I don't!

That was the end of those boxes. 🀣 πŸ˜‚

Think out of the box when hunting down coins, Airport banks, laundromats, 7/11's, supermarkets, etc..
I've found some of my best stuff off the beaten trail.

Disclaimer: I'm not a dealer, trader, grader, investor or professional numismatist. I'm just a hobbyist. (To protect me but mostly you! 🀣 )

Not a series or album collector. Just in the Silver, variety aspect. Sometimes, the condition of the finds, and nice varities, I'll keep!
I usually flip the bad condition silver coins for cash.

    Dollar rolls? Yes! Many times.
Found my share of many good varieties too!
One of them being the 2000p Sacagawea, "Wounded Eagle". Sold it for $125.

It is too bad the rolling machine gave your proof the ring of face value

How do you get rid of your extras and does it cost you anything?

Coinstar generally charges a service fee of up to 12.5% of the value of the coins you're exchanging, plus a transaction fee of 50 cents...banks usually have coin return machines that are free to use for customers with an account.

I've done it, in a snow melt fed ice cold Cosumnes River in El Dorado County - I found colour, but I also appreciated that it was hard and freezing work.

It would still be fun to get a used Dansco Kennedy album and see how many spots you could fill.

I did this years ago with the Washington quarter, just for fun.
Then when you're done you have plenty of coins for the self-serve car wash.

    Results,
    Only 3 Finds.
    However, all 3 Silver!
    1968-40%
    1969-40%
    1964-90%

Once again, not great but not too bad.
    Similar to my first Box.
So, the experiment wasn't really an experiment. Just coincidental.
