Department of the Navy Petty Officer 1st Class - a challenge coin?

First of all...thank you for your service to all you Veterans.
I am fortunate at work, I get to help people every single day.
I work with plenty of Vets and homeless Vets among others.

A homeless gentleman Veteran I've been assisting with career navigation and getting into some Federally funded training gave me this and thanked me for what I've been assisting him with. I tried with all my might to turn it down politely. He ended up placing it on my desk and told me it was mine and the he would get another one lol. I ended up giving him a sincere thank you and told him I'm a life-long coin collector and so I really appreciate it as a surprise gesture.

Just wanted to share a sweet moment with all of you from a Veteran who is a good man and doing his best to re-integrate into the Workforce and society. He's working hard to get past his mental health barriers to be self sufficient and experience some true satisfaction from life once again.

I know that it was a tough decision for the OP to accept this particular gift, but bestowing a Challenge Coin is often a very special expression of recognition or appreciation, which certainly fits this situation.
