Is this a 1859 N9 DP # 5?
also:
is this Clip ? I believe a Clip is usually a clean clip. However, there are some interesting tell-tale signs on both sides.
I can only guess.

    Not any type of a clip.
    Looks like it is some sort of damage. Cannot think of anything in the
    minting process that would cause that. My second thought was a
    defective planchet but the coin is so worn that it would be hard to
    verify that.

    Yes, it's a DP#5, but it looks like physical damage ate a gouge in the coin itself, not of the die. Always look for the large CD/C at the R in Regina that travels into Gratioa and the rest of Regina as time marched on. That's a good marker if you can't see the underpunch of the 9 in the upper part of the loop.
