I told my wife about this thread. She asked me "How can a husband get away with spending $2,200 for a coin without his wife knowing?" I just smiled. She's going to kill me....

I'm not married, which makes coin decisions easy! I'm getting them all before I do get married. But I must say that is a beautiful coin!

                  Neil,

The problem with the buy 'em before you get married plan is when the future wife finds out how much you have into coins when planning the wedding...I've been married for about a year now and just finally started rebuilding my Lincoln collection from scratch.

                  Ken,

Congrats. That is a nice coin. I almost bought that one from Millers Mint at the Central States show in April. Just couldn't work out a deal. I'm glad one of the Merc. guys here ended up with it. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

                  Ken,

Congratulations on winning the '26-S. Greysheet bid is $2210, so you did real well with that one. I had it on my watch list, because I liked it and wanted to know what it sold for. It looks very PQ, and is worth every cent that you'll be paying,,,,,and paying......and paying.imageimage But hey, if we're on the verge of a bull market in coins like some people are predicting, it may turn out to be a shrewd investment. Better to put money in coins than in stocks these days. With luck, you'll be able to pick up the remaining three coins in 64FB for a little over 16 grand (don't tell the wife that!).

I don't think your wife will kill you if she finds out what you spent, but she might smash your computer, or at the very least disconnect you from the internet. So if we go more than a day or two without hearing from you, we'll know why. image

Again, congrats, and good luck in keeping it a secret.

                  Jim

                  Beautiful coin Ken!

When you get close to completion the final couple of acquistions really make you squirm a bit. The dollars are getting bigger and there are other considerations involved.. that said it is a great coin and I am really pleased for you. Thanks for the look into your acquistion of this "dirty dime".

                12. O-kay we need a poll here - how many coin collectors are marred to a great understanding never upset at what i spend wife ( Yes I'm sucking up ) named Karen. My Karen understands and I put up with her collection of boyds bears so we are even I think - except there are stuffed bears all over the house.

My wife is pretty understanding also. I was at a flea market, of all places to find a nice coin, the other day; Just your standard junk for sale place. And there it sat, the second nicest 1954-P cent I'd ever seen. It was completely origional, fully lusterous with a nice mint sheam going around the head, and NO webbing on the coin ANYWHERE!!! It was in a MS date set that the owner had in a capital plastic. I said to my wife, "Dang I wish I had the $$$ for this right now." I had no cash. She pulled out some money I didnt even know about and said here you go. So I bought the whole date set just to get the cent! How's that for an understanding wife image. Oh, price... $40 for the date set.

                  Jon:
Did Millers Mint also have the ICG Graded 26S at Central State ? The Scan they had up on Ebay made it look somewhat Dull and I was wondering if this is what the Dime actually looked like. I believe it Did Not Sell.
Boy Karens are all over the Place in the Collecting Community !! Must Be they are Very Understanding and Forgiving. Sure Hope So as I Will Have to Tell Mine Sooner or Later on this Dime. Maybe I better Go Find Some Salt & Pepper Shakers for Her Collection of Them to Put Her in a Happy Mood.image
Thanks Folks for All of the Fine Comments. This is By Far the Most Expensive Dime/Coin I have Ever Purchased and Much Thought thru the Week went into the Purchase before Pushing the Button. Again a BIG THANKS to All of You. imageimage

It's a beautiful coin, congratulations! My wife, Crystal, is so understanding that she very often buys me nice coins, more often nicer then that I buy for myselfimage She is strongly near-sighted and helps me pick the flaws before buying any coin. She's the best!

Nice coin Ken, I know what you mean when you buy an expensive coin. You get that funny feeling in your stomach. Tell you wife you
bought the coin to add to your IRA or 401K plan. LOL

                        6. Yes, beautiful coin. Also you are the CEO of your collection. So nobodyelse can take the money and run, unlike the stock market. Tell her it is a more sound and prudent investment for the future. Girlfriends and wives always like to hear the sound and prudent words.
