1972 P Nickel - any idea what caused the damage to the rim-MINT or PMD?
I found the 1972 P Nickel while CRH today. It looks strange and wondered if anyone had an idea what caused it and if it is just simply a case of PMD. Sorry for the poor pictures too. Thanks in advance for looking and any comment you might have.

Looks like PMD to me. The fully struck reverse sort of supports that, I think.

I believe you're on the right track. It seems that the other side of the nickel would have should damage under than dings from a 52-year circulation journey. Thanks for the comments.
