That safe looks a lot like mine, but mine didn't come with silver bars.

That “1.” Prefix bar is a winner

I forgot to post the back of the other winner. This one has beautiful flow lines on the front and a linen pattern on the back. Allengelhard website says this is a variation of the 3rd series Canadian Engelhard run. Mintage of around 500.

I got a dozen or so 10ozt and a kilo bar for giggles. I usually only buy them if they're cheaper than rounds. Most times the difference is negligible. Rounds are easier to deal with both in storage and exchange. Plus, I cant stick 250 ounces of bars in a Kangaroo box.

Lately I mostly like 100+-ounce older bars with pour lines like these two: A basically unknown CAO bar reverse and The Bache JM bar is <250 poured. Fairly scarce. Also, a couple Englehard first series 6-digit serials here soon. The smaller bars are very nice, but the premiums for the scarce ones are a bit higher per ounce, so I go for the 100's usually.

I love 10 oz bars. They are just right, not too big and so many to choose from. AW

    I like Franklins!!!

Pre-33 gold is nice to collect but premiums make it inappropriate to stack IMHO.

Gold and silver bullion is good when premiums are down like now.

Gold and silver bars (other than collectable bars like Engelhard) are typically good because premiums never seem to be outrageous. Be careful on the gold bars because there is a lot of counterfeiting going on with phony gold and assay cards. Buy from a good source or have some way to check without having to remove them from the assay card.

The longer I live the more convincing proofs I see of this truth, that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice is it possible for an empire to rise without His aid? Benjamin Franklin

Old vintage bars are highly collectable so they do carry a collector premium above their melt value.

Where does one go to determinate value of their silver bars?

SLV is a very poor substitute for actual silver. It is definitely NOT ever an "investment" and is, at best, a bad speculation.

    .

I agree if you are buying silver to HOLD or as a collectible. Otherwise, SLV is a great trading vehicle.

Buying SLV at $20.22 @ share on 1-22-2024 and selling on 5-17-2024 at $28.79 with no commission at a discount broker is a nice return. And there are no income taxes if it's in your Roth IRA.

At this market peak, what would a coin dealer offer for silver coins?

    eBay

This is specifically ASEs in my area: Local shops offering Spot +$1. If you want to do it yourself local Craigslist will get you Spot +$3-more if patient. Online dealers will offer Spot +$2-2.50 but you have to ship then they will return many for toning, spots etc. Ebay yeah a bit higher but subtract the fees, shipping, etc. PITA. RGDS!

P.S. The SLV was much easier, 1 mouse click to buy and 1 to sell, profits taken, no fees/premiums and yes God Bless the ROTH. THKS!

The whole worlds off its rocker, buy Gold™.

No price guide that I know of,
Just previously sold items on different platforms to gather a range of sold pricing.
Without knowing what you have... ALLENGELHARD has information but no pricing.
IF they are art bars... Archie Kidd's books did a good job on those guide books.

Got change for a 1000 oz bar? Seriously I would think ten 100 oz bars of different distinctive brands/kinds/etc would be much more interesting to have in your collection.
