Good Day at the Bank Today

Klif50Klif50 Posts: 682 ✭✭✭✭

Went to the bank and asked for halves. Lady said they had just got in 400 rolls but the most they would give me was 43 rolls (not sure why but OK). Got them home and they were all customer wrapped rolls. Just went through them and there were 40 40%, 7 90% plus a Franklin Half and a really worn Kennedy clad that I haven't figured out the date yet.

I asked my friend at the bank where the rolls came from and she said "grandpa died and he always saved half dollars and the grandkids got them and wrapped them and brought them to the bank and were very happy with their $4,000 windfall.

I'm happy as I have never hit a streak this big and will go back tomorrow and see if I can buy some more rolls.

You know the teller and the teller knows the customer. 🤔

    In any case, congrats.

Congratulations! That’s the kind of thing that keeps me going back for more, though very occasionally these days. Your post is an inspiration.

It looks like a clad half. If we knew if it were silver we could narrow it down quite a bit. It appears.to be early 70's but I could be mistaken.

Also, if we could tell the mint mark, that would help.

It has a D mint mark on the obverse, so definitely not 1964.
It looks like it could be clad, but it seems more likely to be this worn if it were silver clad. A picture of the edge would help too @klif50

I thought that it was a D, but it also kind of looked like a P, so I wasn't sure.

The P mint mark doesn't appear on Kennedy halves until 1980, which is also around the time there is a lowering in relief. It looks like a higher relief coin to me, and that is why I thought the mint mark was a D.

I agree with you. It is almost certainly a D. I f it was a P it would narrow down the date range though.
