10c 1900 King Leopold II Stamp with Sunday Strip

Here is a fun one I just learned about. Cool history. The 10c 1900 King Leopold II Stamp with Sunday Strip.

  • Carmine Rose
  • 10 c - Belgian centime
  • "Postes Belcique" - indicates that the stamp is from Belgium
  • "Belcie Posterijen" is Dutch for "Belcie Post Office"
  • "Ne Pas Livrer Le Dimanche" is French for "Do not deliver on Sunday"
  • "Niet Bestellen Op Zondag" is Dutch for "Do not deliver on Sunday"

The Sunday Delivery Instructions were printed on Belgian stamps as a request to avoid Sunday delivery. The sender could leave the perforated tab attached to the stamp if they objected to their letter being delivered on Sundays. If they didn’t object, they could remove the tab when affixing the stamp to the envelope
