My Buffalo Nickel Variety and Error Collection……..so far

VetterVetter Posts: 854 ✭✭✭✭✭

I know it’s only 10 coins and much smaller than many on here but I’m pretty proud of it.
2 doubled dies…1916 and 1935
2 off centers… 1920 and 1936
2 double strikes in collar… 1935 and a no date
2 missing legs… 1937 D 3 leg and 1936 D 3 1/2 leg
1 overdate… 1918/7 D
1 clipped planchet… 1916

I’m waiting on a 1915 D/D to come back and always looking for more.
I would be interested in see what you have as far as errors or varieties in the Buffalo Nickel series.

Do you mind posting more close-up photos of both sides of that double struck AG03?

Even though you do not have many, you have some very nice ones

are you going to grab any 2 feathers?

Love the double struck in AG-3. There are a LOT of Buffalo nickel varieties, including two feathers, RPM's, DDO's and DDR's, 3 1/2 leggers, 3 leggers, and a lot more I can't think of right now. Some sell for major money especially in AU to Mint State grades. Good luck with your search!

This is a really cool way to approach a series. Nice work!

A dateless double struck in the collar in AG - amazing! Hard to believe it lasted in circulation that long.

I would be interested in see what you have as far as errors or varieties in the Buffalo Nickel series.

I have the 2 main affordable varieties:

    • 1918/7-D, VG-8 raw. I found it in my grandfather's Whitman folder, in the 1918-D slot. At first I didn't believe it.
    • 1937-D 3-legged, F-12 raw. In a 2x2 from my grandfather's collection; he found it. There is a second one that I think is a fake (tooled?).

I also have a 1918-S VF with a nice small die crack. A die state rather than a die variety or error.

    Aren't they both "male bison"?
