Mystery find! Need help!

I found this at a fairly old area. I’ve tried to find info about it online everywhere but no luck. Anyone have any idea what it is or how old it could be?

In my opinion, which could absolutely be wrong, it appears to be a commercially made button or tag.

I thought the same thing but the place I found it and the depth (also under a fat root) had me thinking otherwise. It’s bigger than a quarter and the metal is a soft and grayish. Thought it may be pewter.

It Always helps to picture with a coin or ruler for size reference.
I Google searched the image and an exonumia piece was close.
Looks like it could have been a pendant.
