Topps card stock with imprinted letters/symbols?

Is anyone aware if Topps printed cards on anything other than blank stock? I have a 67 Mays that I assumed was a reprint because it had letters (only visible at an angle) that I can't make out on the card stock. I just came across a 69 Paul Casanova with something similar, so maybe that was a thing?

The 1967 Topps Willie Mays is from the 1966 Topps Comic Book Foldees, the printing plates weren't completely cleaned off and several cards from the Baseball 3rd Series can be found with remnants of the 1966 Comic Book Foldees printing. It was discussed on a Net54 thread years ago but I don't know if I could even find that thread now. I'm not aware of it happening on 1969 Topps Baseball cards but some 1970 Topps Joe Coleman cards can be found with DETROIT in the sky that is from a 1969-70 Topps Basketball card that wasn't completely removed from the printing plate. It looks like it says ROOKIE on the 1969 Paul Casanova card, I would guess it was from a previous 1969 Topps Baseball Series that wasn't completely cleaned off of the printing plate.
This board never ceases to amaze me with the breadth of knowledge to be found!
Yep...wow. what impressive info.
Wow that is interesting stuff. Thanks for sharing. Really cool to notice these and learn how they happen. The font on that mays rookie looks the same as the 1967 topps rookie costs.
