Is Anyone Else having Problems with Fedex??

gemintgemint Posts: 6,101 ✭✭✭✭✭

Between myself and family and friends, it seems Fedex is a complete disaster these days. If you aren't home to sign for a package, it seems their system no longer allows you to redirect it to a local Fedex store. It says the seller needs to authorize it. Maybe it's a consequence of the flurry of porch pirates over the past four years. In the end, my packages are getting returned to the sender. It's very frustrating!

I had this with my last PSA shipment. I stayed home for the expected delivery date only to not have an attempted delivery and RTS to PSA.

It is hit and miss if you can re-direct. I actually had a card sent back to Ebay because of the issue - they re-sent it out and changed it so I could send to a FedEx store for pick-up. I believe over a certain dollar amount, the shipper needs to check something to allow re-direct when the default used to be to check something not to allow it.

I don't know if it would help your situation(s), but if you sign up for FedEx delivery manager, you get more visibility, and some more control.

I suspect that brad31 is on the money here with the dollar amount, perhaps indirectly, impacting the service level. At certain service levels, based on insurance, FedEx has what is called 'hand deliver' instruction, which requires that the delivery driver places the package into the hands of the recipient. In my experience how closely the driver adheres to this policy is variable.

All I can say is that with the delivery manager you get a few more controls that I have found helpful.... You can sign remotely and place packages on hold at FedEx ship centers which is nice when something comes up and I know I'll miss a delivery. It also gives you a bit more visibility into when you might expect delivery if you want to "lie in wait" in the bushes and surprise them. Boo!

I have had more issues with USPS in the last 6 months not even attempting delivery. It's always nice to watch USPS swing by... fiddle with the mailbox... drive away... only to find a note inside "Sorry we missed you while you were out.".

I generally find FedEx to be the best of the bunch with respect to deliveries, but I don't discount your situation at all and hope this helps and/or you sort it out. That sucks.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll sign up for delivery manager and give it a try.

I have a FedEx account and never have issues redirecting to one of their hold places. I do it on all PSA orders and never one problem.

Yes I have read the recent fed ex complaints on other sites. I myself have had issues with them.

Definitely recommend setting up accounts with both Fed Ex and UPS to monitor and manage incoming deliveries. USPS Informed Delivery is pretty good, too.

I use delivery manager and have even called. Have been told this package is not eligible to ship to FedEx dropoff location. They will wait until a date I designate but living in a condo building the driver sometimes just leaves the slip and doesn’t come up and knock to get signature or contact em directly from the building directory. Never had this problem until the last few months.

Not trying to be glib, but I've never had anything other than problems with Fedex. Issues every single time and about 25+% of the time I never get the parcel!

Horrible, especially when trying to get a phone delivered. Can only ship to the billing address, not the store that it was ordered from, and certainly not our business address where we are all day. Driver will not even get out of the truck, I was home, car in driveway and he stopped, scanned and ran. I had to grab my keys and catch him a few streets over.

  • A friend of mine who buy's and sells a ton of stuff that requires a signature. He uses a UPS store with a delivery box he pays for on a monthly charge. The is an additional charge per month. But he has had not one issue with deliveries.

Ebay just sent me a card from authentication and it won’t let me choose to deliver to a FedEx drop location again.

Amazon delivers within their stated time frame, but despite spelled out requests they never ring the doorbell to signal the delivery. And we are always home when delivery is made.
