Hobby Positivity?

So far in 2024 -
I've been attending more shows with the boy and getting into the TCG stuff he collects. They have been packed with good sales and great collectors. I started participating in trade nights (at the urging of the boy!) and that has brought another channel for me to enjoy the hobby. On ebay, my sales have been strong all year across all products. On the buy side, I've been coming across great deals for singles and 1990's FB boxes. The last two consignments I did slightly outperformed my expectations. The only bad part is that new modern licensed product is still obscenely overpriced.

Is anyone else feeling this hobby postivity so far in 2024? Feels a lot different than post National. That's why I don't excited when the doom predictions hit the board. In my time, the hobby has always made the adjustments to keep me engaged.

Feel like there is always positivity if you collect what you like and add to your collection. If it’s not fun than collecting pictures on cardboard is even more silly than it sounds! Glad you are bonding with your son over the hobby. Part of what makes it such an escape for me is going to shows with my brother, mom and dad were among my favorite memories growing up.

My oldest son is 35. For years I tried to get him interested in cards. No luck.

Now, he is into Disney Lorcana(!) in a big way. We went together to a show last Saturday. It was fun to watch him experience his first show.

A lot of the "doom & gloomers" are people who are more into the $ side of the hobby than the collecting side.
They are not satisfied unless the arrows are always pointing up.

For the longest time I was the only serious collector in my social circle. Besides this board, I didn't have anyone to talk hobby with. Now that the boy collects and wants to go to shows, my enjoyment in the hobby has 10X.

It all started at the first Burbank Show. I dragged him along so I could buy some boxes. While I was negotiating a box deal he asked me if I could buy him a Pokeman 3-pack Blister. I asked him why he wanted Pokemon, he said he saw a guy on YouTube talking about them. Many booster boxes, blisters, tins, Pokeballs, and booster bundles later, he has a bad case of the collecting bug. I'm actually happy he is taking his own path in the hobby with TCG instead of sports like his old man. I'm learning a lot about TCG through him.

For as much TCG PSA grades, I am surprised there isn't a dedicated forum for it.

I agree on the TCG and a forum. Maybe there is already someplace everyone goes or being a younger collector base discord serves their purpose. Seems like no brainer to help people enjoy the hobby. I know I like talking cards on here.
