I wonder what this means I found it at the Beckett website

We grade practically EVERY SIZE CARD IMAGINABLE. Go here for a complete list of cards that are gradeable by Beckett Vintage Grading and BGS cough cough ...trimmed

And I am quoting them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!image I guess I could have them grade my Nestles card.

Meant to post this at the other board.

Say what you will, Boggs, and as I said, I don't mind these cards being graded, but it is egg on the face of PSA that they have graded these in the past.

From Beckett's what we grade list, I find one of the most amusing items being the "Tastycake Phillies" sets that the Phillies issued every year. Large postcards -- not even close to a card. But what the heck, I'll probably send some of my Schmidts in one day.

I didnt mean anything bad to PSA or BGS ( a little towards BGS) If you read it as written it sounds like they grade trimmed cards. My opinion on the Nestles is, PSA should have know befor they Graded one card if they were from sheets. I contacted them a long time ago about one I recieved from A Employee years ago. Cut from the factory and never heard back if they will grade it.

Boggs -- I've stayed away from the oversized cards because it doesn't look like anyone will grade them anytime soon. Topps made some great 5x7 cards in 1980 and 1981, but since there doesn't seem to be a grading future for any of those, I think I will let it pass.

It is amazing how many 1984 Topps cards there can be of a player, though. Schmidt has four cards in the regular 1984 Topps set, times three for the Tiffany and the Nestles.

Does Boggs have any 1984 Topps Rub-Down cards? That is one of my more intriguing PSA 9 cards of Schmidt I have.

  • Most of the single Nestles cards you see were professionally cut from sheets in the same manner that regular Topps cards were. There wasn't a tremendous number of complete sets in sheet form sent to people during the promotion back then. If someone was to cut one of those up by hand you aren't going to be able to have them graded. Most of the sheets produced were sold after the promotion to one dealer. The dealer had them professionally cut, just like regular Topps sheets would have been. He sold these in complete set and single form for many many years. If grading companies are grading them, these are the ones they're grading. The only technicality is that they were professionally cut for a dealer and not for Topps.

    Boggs,
To answer your question about the 84 topps oversize, they did make 5x7 sets of their regular cards in 84, 85 and 86. I don't know the exact number in the set but believe it was like 30-50, just the stars of course. I collect Gary Carter, and have his from each year, I've always liked them. It will be interesting to see how large the companies will be willing to go, they do the 76 basketball, 71 topps supers, 70's MSA disks and a few others, can you imagine the size of the slab a 5x7 topps card would be in? Hope the information helps.

Since this is my first post I guess I should introduce myself. I have been reading this board for a few months as I'm new to the graded card hobby, I've been a card and memorabilia collector for about 25 years. I have been impressed and very educated by reading your posts. I collect Gary Carter, Thurman Munson and Ron Gant primarily, but you guys have me flirting with the idea of starting a set from the 1970's. What a challenge, but it seems like fun, and a great community here to enjoy it with.

Well, sorry to drone on and on, I hope I'll be able to contribute something worthwile to this board from time to time.

I don't think there is a Boggs Rub Down. And then there is 3 Boggs cards in the 84 set. A few are rare variations I wont find all three in the same form. But I want to see how many I can get...just for fun. And being the PSA supporter I want them slabbed.

PSA could easily make graded card holders for larger cards. (Think of how many comic book holders are out there).

However, the cost would be prohibitive, for all but some turn-of-the-century issues. And I just don't see there ever being a strong market for graded T3s, Cabinets, Fatima Premiums, etc. It is possible -- but most of the people that spend hundreds or thousands on those sorts of cards can judge condition well enough for themselves...
