500 Drachma note lost/stolen

NCIC sent out a broadcast on this:

INVESTIGATING AGENCY: USPS

REPORT NUMBER:N/A

TYPE OF INCIDENT: LOST/STOLEN

DATE OCCURRED: 11/24/23

INCIDENT LOCATION: BELL GARDENS , CA

A package being sent Priority Registered Mail from New Jersey has been reported

lost/stolen. The package was last scanned in Bell Gardens, CA.

The package contained a rare 1923 500 Drachma note Ser#308359 (raw). There are

only five known.

    I would bet that it's sitting in a safe somewhere being ignored. Registered mail is signed off at each step of the way. It gets put into a safe when not moving...but if there is a thief, they will find a way.

    That happened to me where it was in safe with no one knowing where it was. 3 day took 5 and a half. Long as I got it 👍

    My takeaways...

    I hope they get it back.

    Why the heck did they mail it Priority Registered? Once you add Registered service then other service levels are irrelevant and unenforceable. I have to wonder if the Priority Mail labeling confused a postal clerk.

    I assume the Postal Inspectors are on the case. They know who signed for it last.
