having quit following major league baseball after the 86 world series ( Dr said bosox were not good for my health) I don't think I've suffered thru any strikes. what does a strike do to collector enthuisiasm. Frankly I don't know how people can develop a team loyalty when players move on to most money . I love looking at my YAZ or MICKEY start to finish in same uniform love HBO" When it was a game." Looking thru my cards recently I didn't realize how many great players finished off their careers on different teams than i associate them with. Last straw when redsoxs traded dewey evans sacralige in my old book thanks for letting me vent

WHAT IF???? You know... If every ball park in America (and Canada) were EMPTY for just one day. What do you think the Players Union would do if the Fans went on strike? And if a nationally televised game had ZERO fans in attendance. Only ball players, umpires, writers, and stadium workers, would be there for everyone to see. That would be a HUGH message to the players, unfortunately, I don't think we fans could be organinzed enough to make that happen nationwide. Only for ONE day.
I can hear the owners now in negotiations... "Sorry, but attendance has dropped so low we can't afford to pay you $15 million this year. Would you take $10 million?" Maybe the players could all get off-season jobs... like all the player on those vintage cards we love so much. Carl Furillo, a man who would be worth at least $10 million a season now, made next to nothing back in the 50s. He had to continue working after retirement. Almost all of the players of that era did the same. Of course, only a handful of player made real money then. But, that is the market and what the market is worth, I suppose.
I just can't feel sorry for today's players. They have it too good... And in general, we fans are the ones to suffer, not the players. This could be an unforgivable black eye on the game. Can cooler heads prevail? Where is the Federal Leauge when you need it?

As for a possible strike. If the players strike, the owners should immediately use replacement players and finish out the season. Playoffs, World Series the whole bit. Only take back those players who realize playing ball for millions is not such a bad job. These people are not indespensable. The government replaced the air traffic controllers when they striked, I'm sure basball owners can find many minor leaguers who would be happy to take the major league minimum
