1890 was the dawn of a new era. It saw the last of the Indian Wars and with the 1890 census, the closing of the western frontier. Idaho and Wyoming are admitted as the 43rd and 44th states and America was transitioning into a global industrial power.
The coinage of 1890 was the last year before New Orleans and San Francisco started coining minor silver in larger numbers and the 1890 Philadelphia quarter is the only quarter issued that year.

Here's 2.
The beginning of the “Glory Days” in proof production at the U.S. Mint. The 1890s were and remain unmatched in producing exquisitely mirrored and deeply cameo’ed proof coins.

The $1 and $3 gold pieces were abolished in 1890, but the last were produced in 1889. Congress also passed legislation allowing the mint to change designs - hello Barber coins in 1892. Congress was also busy with the Silver Purchase Act. Interesting year.
PS the 3 cent nickel was abolished as well.

A very low mintage of only 590 proofs for the year of 1890.
Wow, 3 different Morgan Proofs, outstanding.
From the "junk silver dollar" bin at the local coin shop.
