What grade do you think this 1858 quarter is?

I saw this quarter at a coin show this morning and couldn’t resist it. It was labeled as a choice VF and priced at $40, which was irresistible to me. Please share your thoughts on the grade, I think I did pretty well.

The nick at 3 o’clock is hardly noticeable in person, I’m not sure why it shows up so well in the video.

I very much like your video demonstration.
I'd grade it at VF35. The reverse strike is a little weak. Almost certainly cleaned too.
Looks like an XF-40 cleaned.
The coin looks XF details, cleaned to me.

I agree that the reverse holds it back from a full XF. but still a nice coin and I have seen similar coins in 40 holders. James

Why do you guys think it’s been cleaned? I have a suspicion it’s that weird reflective quality it has, almost like a proof-like coin.

That's the reason. A circulated coin shouldn't be reflective.
No, it's the uniform, dull silver grey color. there are traces of luster and P/L surface remaining despite the cleaning.

Xf Details to my eye...
During my early collecting phase I bought a few coins like this one. The main thing to realize is that a coin with XF or lower wear should have dull surfaces. there is a tiny band of luster around the stars but reflective fields which is the tipoff. I have an 1850s quarter which almost identical. Thanks for posting the video as the still photos don't provide enough information.
