Opinions please

Hello,

I incorrectly posted the images of this coin on the US coin forum and was given the advice of posting it here. My initial question was asking if anyone knows if it's legitimate. I asked because it looks to have surfaces that I'd expect a coin struck from EDM dies to look like. However I've never seen a coin struck from EDM dies in person.

One member responded that the coin is legitimate and that the surfaces and goofity rims are par for the date and issue.

Another member informed me of this category here on the PCGS forum so here it is.

I'd sure appreciate some guidance (going on the assumption that the coin is legitimate) as to the ballpark value of the coin. I know exactly zero about non US coins and purchased the coin long ago simply because I love the two digit re-punched date.

Any and all education would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and I did weigh the coin (albeit on a crummy no 10ths scale) and it weighs 8 grams.

It looks genuine. Beside the repunched date, it has a die crack and machine doubling
which you don’t usually see on a counterfeit.. Not sure of value but there is 1/4 oz. of
gold in it so it has to be worth about $500.00 in bullion alone.

If you are going to weigh coins, you will have to a get a scale that is accurate to at least
two decimal points. Rounding it out to the nearest gram isn’t much help.

Yes, I was the person who proclaimed it genuine on the coin forum.

It's a standard weight-the same as a British sovereign, just under 1/4 oz net gold. (.2354), so .2354 x spot price of gold= melt value of the coin. With gold currently at $2024/0z, this coin has $476.45 worth of gold and you should be able to get up to 95-98% of that price if sold to a competitive gold dealer.

No need to ballpark a value on a coin like this. It has a very well-defined value.

Collector and dealer in obsolete currency. Always buying all obsolete bank notes and scrip.
