Here's the lowest graded of seven at PCGS, a PR 61 with a green bean. NGC also has seven, but they have graded one lower, PF 58. It's the 1859 transitional half dime, a "coin without a country". Estimates are that only about 20 of these were struck. Amazingly, that minuscule production made use of two obverse dies! Mine is one of two known from its obverse die. Show us your favorite bottom pop coins, and tell us why they're special.

I'm always a fan of coins that did their job well.

Well, it's one of many at the bottom of the Barrel.
It's special to me because it's the oldest American coin I have, it's the first official circulated coin in the United States, I like the grade and love these small soap bars. Yes that's right, I said it, Soap Bar! 🤣 😉 Everyone knows it's a soap bar not a soapbox.😂 LoL! Plus, I bought the slab not the coin. And yes, the coin looks worse in-hand! 😂 😉

Only 15 known and this one saw extensive circulation.
Second lowest graded at PCGS. Lowest at CAC. Working on a low grade quarter eagle type set. Need threee mint marked coins. C, D and O.
PR 04? I wonder how they are even able to determine its a proof with that level of wear. Really cool coin, it doesnt show up in the pop report on coinfacts though.

Only proof strikes were recorded but that is debated since most are known circulated and there are to many known to be from such a small proof mintage. That said there is less than 2 dozen known

Thanks, I should have read Ron Guth's excerpt at the bottom. I saw that there were graded circulation strikes which is what threw me off.

This PC08 was crossed from NGC08 (cert 1930454-001), but NGC pop was not corrected to reflect this. This NGC12 is the actual bottom feeder ATS.

The 1841 is now in the PCGS pop report as a circulated 4. The experts do not agree if they were all struck as Proofs. Some say too many survive to have been produced only as Proof. But an interesting point is how many more Proof large cents and half cents were produced in 1841. The pops are much higher for 1841 than any other years. CAC still thinks they were all struck as Proofs. With only 15 or 16 known Proof or not is no big deal.
Wow, insanely rare with only 2 known for that die pair.
And one of the rarest of the 8 "Great but Too Rare for the Top 100" seated half dime varieties.
@braddick - Is your Peace dollar graded?

No.
I'd grade it Basal State .05

PCGS VF 35 CAC. Lowest graded at CAC. Only 6 coins total with the green bean.
1863 Judd-301 - 1863 w/L proof!
This is the lowest graded (only BN designation) coin between PCGS and NGC, at PF64BN.
FWIW, while the coin I posted is currently in a PCGS holder, I just noticed that it is the J-232 plate coin on NGC's site...

You have my emphatic support in correcting the record to "soap bar!" Let us get up on our soap boxes and share the word on soap bars!
