Sealed boxes of sport cards

A few years ago I purchased a sealed box of 1989 O Pee Chee hockey cards with a number of sealed wax packs inside the stars and rookie cards were to sent to PSA for grading luckily for me the box was not expensive to buy at the time because the box was stored in a warm location and the gum softened and ran down the side of the cards ruining them anyone else have that problem?
