NEWP - 1796 NC-1 R-6 Large Cent
I was hanging out with @EagleScout2017 and @EBSnumismatics after getting back one day from Long Beach (great show, by the way) and I had talked about a 1796 NC-1 large cent on Ebay that was about to end. I placed a bid (using a joke number) and ended up winning the coin at what I thought was a very reasonable price.
A little road rashed (or rather, horse stable rashed) but it is one of about two dozen known of this elusive NC variety. I do think the "non-collectible" moniker is rather outdated for many of the NC varieties, however. Very glad that my first NC ended up being a 1796, given that I collect this year by variety. This brings my 1796 collection to seven coins, but only six Sheldon varieties.

Rough but tough, I like it!

A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.
I got another early US coin on the way that matches that description… stay tuned!

A 1796 NC, particularly a Draped Bust, is always nice, and that example, in spite of the damage and wear, still shows some nice detail.
Congratulations!
Have you posted your collection of 1796's ? Would love to see it.
Awesome!
Smitten with DBLCs.
@Omegaraptor I second this motion! Let's see that collection, please?
Way cool 😎
Congrats, you've got the eye. Great pickup.
