Ways to prevent PCGS NFC chips from being read, in transit - foiled again!

This was a first for me - does this really work for sensitive scanners?? Other methods?

    Tin foil?

I thought I was the only one who still uses that term. Jeez, buncha old fogies here.

Kinda reminds me the dreaded holiday fruit loaf. I've found that the foil does interfere with the signa!.

Always used and heard tin foil in my family, perhaps the different uses are regional.

I always say aluminum foil. When I posted "Tin foil?", I was referring to his hat. Maybe my joke was a little too subtle. :s

I had a package from DLRC arrive last week with the cardboard sleeve fully encased in tinfoil.

Nothing is as expensive as free money.

Nice to hear the big guys catching on to this. I think foil alone should work in disrupting the signal.

Should work just fine. You can buy little mylar sleeves for credit cards, passport cards, and others with NFC chips, which are just a layer of foil cemented to the mylar.

You do have to remember that there are two tiers of scanners. One is the low-powered one in your cell phone - that can't read beyond a few dozen mm. The other is the one you could build with a car battery, specially tuned antenna, and a small computer that sits in a shopping cart looking like a Homer bucket. Or - without trouble - I was able to find commercial units that read up to 20 meters.

You can't make an aluminum foil hat...

The last few coin purchases from my favorite rare gold dealer have been wrapped with aluminum foil.

I used to work with a couple of people from England that called it aluminium foil (pronouncing the last syllable with an extra i in it like how you say titanium). I always liked the way they pronounced it and I sometimes still say it that way just for fun.
