Finding lots of 2023 Kennedys in rolls.

I'm kind of curious what people on the forum think is going on here. Folks at my club think the mint is dumping surplus 23 Kennedys to the banks somehow.

2023 Kennedy Half Dollars had the highest mintage in decades and were produced for circulation.

...hmm. You got me even more curious, so I called the mint, and now I'm wondering where you heard that and if it's really correct. When I checked that with the mint, they denied this is the case. I've seen rumors going around they started ''circulating'' halves in 2021. But the answer I got in person from the mint was they do not send halves to the Fed or to the banks for circulation, and have not since 2002. I had the customer service rep check on it to make sure they weren't just reading off an outdated script, and the same answer came back from whomever she asked.

So I guess I'm answering my own question...what I'm finding would be coins taken to the bank from someone who bought them, found they weren't selling and decided to cut their losses by at least returning them to the local back for 50 cents each.

Kind of nuts though, as I just went through 4 boxes and ended up with 10 rolls. So maybe there's something to these rumors after all...we may never know for sure. Anyway, thanks for the thoughts on this.
