Maybe you're thinking of the elusive 1964-D. They were actually made in a quantity of a few hundred thousand at the Denver Mint, but were ordered to be melted. None have apparently turned up, potentially for fear of being confiscated by the Feds. I had read that PCGS was trying to make a deal with the Feds, that if one (or more) did indeed turn up, they would not be confiscated. Who knows?
Steve
No, I'm thinking of a Dan Carr 1965 Peace dollar. I'm told that since it is struck on a Peace dollar planchet, it is a real coin and not a copy. Therefore, it must be a genuine 1965 Peace $.
[Sorry if you can't understand me, my tongue is stuck in my cheek.]
Actually, I believe I also read that Dan Carr has made some 1964-D Peace Dollars as well. Since they were NEVER "officially" released, he's allowed to do that!
The set is fantastic in hand. For me, I think I have to choose the 1935 as my personal favorite, because it seems to capture the goal of the set the best - lovely luster, bright white, and overall has a great "pop" to it.

I am also a fan of the 35 - there are some good ones out there. The 35S also a favorite.
My all time favorite is the 1927 - that a hard coin to get in blast white and I know everyone likes the 21 or 28 as key dates I think the 27 is as valuable or more valuable in terms of getting a nice one.
Great set and love when collectors "complete" sets. Just a suggestion, for your next set try putting together a date set of Capped Bust dimes from 1809 to 1837. It can be done with patience and work but you have that already! You can pick the grades. There is alot of American history that's part of the journey. The good part - there's no real stoppers! Good luck on your next journey and thank you for sharing your collection!
Beautiful set @winesteven! This is not the first time that I have looked at the coins in your thread and followed-up with a trip to ebay and dealer sites to start pricing my own project. Your collecting style continues to inspire me. Thank you for that!
I am a newer collector (started April 2020), and I primarily focus on U.S. Half Cents and Type Coins. Early copper is my favorite.

Now, how about a Low-ball short set of Walking Liberty halves or Braided Hair Large Cents to "clean the palate?"
I love this hobby!
Barberian - I didn't know whether to check the "Like" button in appreciation of your kind words, or the "LOL" button regarding your suggestion that I put together a Low-Ball set or two? I chose the "LOL" button. Yes, each collector properly chooses what they prefer to collect, and I fully understand collectors getting coins in the grades that are within their budget, regardless of the grades, but I have difficulty understanding why people would intentionally put a set together to try to get the WORST possible set?
@NeophyteNumismatist and others above - I really do appreciate all of these kind words. Thank you so VERY much!
@EastonCollection - I took a look, and yes, I can consider your suggestion of putting together a Capped Bust Dime Basic Set, as it's 20 coins. The later dates I'd shoot for low MS grades, most of the others AU grades, and the tougher ones, grades lower than those. What'll be funny though, is that with these, they are "darker" (with more toning), than I generally buy, but heck, maybe it's about time I joined the toning crowd (Ricko, I know you're listening to this up where you are - please don't get upset at me). My Dansco 7070 Type Registry Set has one to start (see below). I got that higher grade, as I needed only one for the Type Set, so the others will have to be in lower grades to fit my budget.
Steve
A day without fine wine and working on your coin collection is like a day without sunshine!!!
Business strike trade dollars are a 6 year run. If you want mintmarks also, that's 17 (or 18 if you consider the S/CC which is listed as part of the main set despite being a variety.
They work perfectly going backwards with your silver dollars...Peace are done, Morgan making progress, then the Trades😁

It was all in fun. You have a nice collection and those Peace dollars are beautiful. Perhaps too beautiful such that you might be getting bored of them (maybe not). So I thought I'd suggest something different.
The Low-ball coin era started when I was away from the hobby (1988-2003). eBay and other large electronic marketplaces started up on the internet as well during that period, serving to connect people with unusual interests and tastes in coins. Even Grunge arose during that period. What was crazy to me was seeing coin price guides and the premiums paid for low-ball coins. There was a sizeable market for them! LOL! The hobby had gone nuts in a fun way! Collectors fighting for the most heavily worn coins, a hilarious new approach to collecting.
I like circulated coins and will purchase an ORIGINAL "AG" or "Fair" coin if it has a nice look or is a rare die marriage, but I'm not striving for the lowest grades.
@winesteven - Love that 1832 CB dime. While 1832 seems to be a common date, finding a nice higher grade 32 was quite tough to find that I thought was pleasing. Your dime is very nice! I guess you got only 19 more to go.
Yes, @Barberian, I recognized your humorous point, so my use of the “LOL” button was literal, and not used as “disagreement”.
I agree with what you just said, except instead of phrasing it as “collectors fighting for the most heavily worn coins”, I call a spade a spade. I’d say, “…fighting for the WORST coins”, lol.

But they fight for the best of the "worst coins", which is somewhat mind bending. There's nothing more special than a CAC-approved P01, but no low-baller wants a gold sticker!! It's just plain nuts!

Incorrect! They fight for the worst of the worst coins, lol. Remember, they want the worst set possible!
When I was a kid reading Superman comics, there was Bizarro World, a cube shaped planet where everything was the opposite of “normal” things on Earth. I believe that’s where low ball collecting started, lol.

Hey @winesteven - can't wait to get an update from you. Couldn't sleep! Come to the Capped Bust folks - its really exciting to collect, alot of research to do and alot of good friends in the group. Also if you want take a peek at my registry set of CBD. Also have Early dimes, Capped Bust half dimes and quarters as well but never listed them on the registry sets. Thats top secret those sets. These series are endless and quite enjoyable to collect.
OK, I pulled the trigger! I just bought the following "dark, CRUSTY" coin for my new 20 coin Capped Bust Dime Basic Set (am I drunk?????):
VF35 w/CAC
CAC Pop = 1 for ALL varieties in this date and grade. The CAC population and price guide tells the complete story and is worth a visit. Of the 36 pieces in this date approved by CAC, almost two-thirds are clustered in the G04 through VF30 grades. Beyond VF30, few examples are extant.
This is a late die state example with heavy obverse die clashing and a shattered reverse with shelf metal at ST(A)TES. Surfaces are unabraded and so pleasing during 10x inspection. This is one of those offerings where the CAC population reports must be considered as finding a better example will come at a larger pricing premium.

Steve, I'm Sean... a member of the capped bust crowd (half dimes in my case--although I have a toe in the water for the dimes). I admired your Peace dollars, but wouldn't have commented. However, this dime got me up at my keyboard! You may or may not be drunk, but you've got a VERY cool coin there!
The Bust Dime Variety Identification Guide by Zack, Scuderi, and Sherrill, report that there's only one die marriage for the 1811/09 overdate year. So, you have an example of JR-1 (R3), in the more common albeit dramatic late die state. "Early die states without reverse die cracks are very rare." It goes on, "As many as twenty 1811 dimes are known in MS, with twenty more in AU, and possibly as many as thirty in EF." Presumably, only a subset of those higher-grade coins have been to CAC for consideration... so maybe there is more green-bean goodness to come.
As it happens, the John Reich Collectors Society (JRCS) just published the latest capped bust dime census of its members, in the 100th issue of the John Reich Journal (Dec 2023). There were 22 1811 JR-1s reported, with a min grade of 8 and a max of 64, with the average of 34.

Yes, if it were made at the Denver Mint and not by Dan Carr, lol. But then, i couldn't afford it, OR the Feds would "SWAT" my house,
