I used to own this coin. Had wanted an 1871-cc 25c for decades. With prices rising, I could not afford a problem free coin. I enjoyed the coin for about 7 years, but couldn't get past the way the reverse looked, as time went by.
I bought it from Jack Beymer and sold it back to him, at some profit,
This is a lot more than I paid.

Problems or not, that’s one cool quarter!

Nice low mintage coin to have - damaged obverse or not.

What a rare coin, in any condition.

I have to laugh a little, because I have a similar story, but it's a different coin, and it's the obverse with the damage.
I used to own THIS 1871-CC quarter. I wanted one for a decade, but couldn't find one in decent condition that I wanted to purchase. I also had my hole-filler coin for about 7 years and couldn't get past the way the obverse looked, so I sold it.
Here's mine, a VF details. It's not that bad in hand but still, obviously has problems. I'd replace it with a straight graded coin, but yeah, good luck finding one. If you collect seated quarters, you have to take what you can get with the 70-cc and 71-cc.
That's hilarious! But not totally surprising!
I like this coin! So hard to find a VF!
That's really not that hard to take, I like
The coin looks nice to me even with some problems. It isn't scrubbed bright, doesn't have a hole or noticeable gouges. In this grade or higher it is a very hard coin to find so as mentioned you take what you can get.
How about this one available at DLRC

I LOVE this one!!!!!
About ten years ago, I bought two 1871-CC quarters with perfect surfaces - a VG8 and a F12. They sold very quickly.
