Fort Myers coin show 1/20
It was a day like any other. Except today we are looking at coins.
The drip, as the kids say.
Before venturing out to look at coins I must have the perfect accessory to go with the stained shirt and cargo shorts. Today I am wearing the Mr. Jones limited edition “Short Fuse”. While it may have been covered by my hoodie sleeve. I was styling on the inside.
I got to the show before they opened at 9:00. There were about 20 others with me. This is a smaller show. I would guess 25 vendors. The location is laid out in a square so you can see everyone when you enter.
A lot of the same vendors set up at this show. Fairly diverse selection from raw coins, certified, and paper money. Something for all collectors. I was in search of certified Barber dimes and quarters. I found squat. I made several passes around the floor. I saw one dime with a CAC sticker and that’s all I remember.
I was about to leave. Making my final rounds so I can keep my money and go home. Then I see it. While poking around a dealers table I see an old ANACS holder with 2 1/2 gold in it. Not my series so I would normally pass. I have this soft spot for soapbox holders though. Obligatory cell phone photo.
The luster looked good. Nice details on the reverse. Yes there is a scratch / mark in the obverse left field. I told myself I didn’t care. I added another soapbox to the collection. Maybe I got myself. Maybe it’s an awesome coin.
If you’re in the area it’s a fun little show to check out.

Congrats on a nice FL day outside and at a coin show. I went to the Clearwater show held in Dunedin today. 65 tables of entertainment and it was nice to get out.
Looking for Top Pop Mercury Dime Varieties & High Grade Mercury Dime Toners.
I had planned on going to that one yesterday. Would have been a five hour drive. Good to know it was a busy show
I went to the Ft. Myers show for the first time today. I did not know that the Clearwater show was also today, otherwise I would have gone there as it was a little closer. Anyhow, after having spent two solid days at the behemoth that is the Winter FUN show it was the complete antithesis of the big daddy of all shows. As such I was completely and utterly relaxed, having no pressure to try to cram everything in.
After having made the circuit in just a little under 20 minutes I went back to a piece that caught my eye, an 1812 Classic Head large cent (Small Date) graded VG10 by PCGS. Early copper is not really my thing but, having read how difficult it is to find these early coppers with a decent planchet I decided to add this to my collection. I can see how early copper is intriguing to so many. I also upgraded one of my Canadian five cent silvers, which are probably of little interest here but I will include my photos for the heck of it.
It was a nice little show. I got caught up with Gary and Brian Lewis, with whom I have done business with in the past. Gary was the president of the ANA back in the early 2000's and he and his son Brian are some of the most pleasant people I have met in the numismatic world. I had a nice time.
I checked out the show in Dunedin today as well. A few tables had better material than I was expecting. I walked away with a $100 widget.
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
I visit the Ft. Myers Coin show every time the show date coincides with a visit to the U.S. It is a 30 minute drive for me. The last one I attended was in November/23.
It is small show, but I thoroughly enjoy it. There is a bit of everything there and have found a few small items over the years.
