A Design Before Its Time

Successfully found numismatic material at the NYINC for a new collection theme, but recently I purchased a medal that did not fit into any of my collections. I was so impressed by the design, created for the 300th anniversary of the Reformation, that I just had to have it. Ostensibly, a usual cityscape, but here the artist created a cubist design of the rooftops. I would not have thought to see such a design in 1817; 1907, maybe, but not 1817. Ecce:
