Buzz Aldrin

My surprising find at the local used bookstore was this illustrated book about astronaut Buzz Aldrin, signed by both him and the illustrator on a bookplate. Aldrin will turn 94 years old next Saturday.

I remember buying one of these (signed directly on title page instead of bookplate) for $20 total when they were first released (I think it was somewhere between 2007-2009). When I did my big sell off (thinking I was done with collecting autographs for good) I got exactly $20 for it in 2011. So I wonder what they bring now.

The last time I looked at his website they had taken down all the numerous autographed memorabilia. Those were much shakier than this one, and MUCH more expensive.

  • I collect autographed books, about 30 to 50 not sure how many up to, abut half or more are already authenticated. I have about 10 or more Buzz Aldrin alot authenticated already. It seems with the Astronaut autographs they personalized them to the person seeking the autograph, which i think greatly devalues the item, and a book plate is signed when they ship a stack to the signer and they sign them when they can, then when sent back they get stuck in the book, so chances are good the signer never touched the book. Those two points are reasons I would never purchase the Item. But as a personal keepsake it is still cool to have Buzz Aldrin's autograph the second man on the moon.
    Good Luck Steve

Why does personalization of an autograph depreciate its value?
