A couple of spots that catch the eye if you look at it, but otherwise, a nice solid coin, in my opinion.

Congrats. It always feels good to add a new type to the collection. Enjoy!

I am a newer collector (started April 2020), and I primarily focus on U.S. Half Cents and Type Coins. Early copper is my favorite.

Is that a long rim bomb at & on the obv? As well as some deep scratches in the left field of the obv and cut on the rev above left wing is a little concerning

Nice raw bust half you can hold in your hand!
Coins don't have to be perfect to be exciting.. this one served its purpose and lived to tell the tale 👌

Price was 116 after shipping. Did I do good or was that to much?

  • Matt97932Matt97932 Posts: 245 ✭✭✭

And should I send it in for grading?

Congrats on your new purchase. I would keep that one raw, as some others noted a few issues. Enjoy the history in your hands

Since you asked - the price you paid appears reasonable. However, that's a very common type, with many to choose from. So with patience, you probably could have gotten a nicer one for a similar or slightly higher price.

And no, you shouldn't send it in for grading, as that would add roughly 50% to your total cost in the coin and it would probably receive a details grade. The fact that you asked indicates that you're not well versed on values.

Have fun, but be patient in your collecting. I know that's hard to do, but In the long run, you'll get a lot more enjoyment out of your collecting..

Thank you for the advice. It took me 6 months to pull the trigger on this . He started at 150. So I waited. You are correct, I got serious about collecting 3 years ago. Meaning studying and reading everything I can find. And again thank you for your advice. I truly appreciate it.

You’re most welcome. And good for you that you weren’t defensive about the feedback you received. That’s a good sign.👍
