    How could this happen?

    Heads must roll!!!

I hope the package shows up. In December I had a RM package go off the grid for two full weeks. Then all of a sudden it was found and delivered. Took over 3 weeks from start to finish.

It's unclear to me. Was it mailed from Spain or the U.S.? If the U.S. it can, and will be, tracked to the last person that had it. It's signed for every time it changes hands.

Has the package been delivered with the contents missing or not delivered yet? If the latter, thirteen days is not long enough to be worried yet. Registered mail is safe, but very slow. I worked at the PO for 31 years. If a piece of registered mail was presented to me damaged, I refused to sign for it unless the damage was noted with my signature. If it's damaged it can be traced to last person that took responsibility for it. I've known registered to take as much as 30 days or more to be delivered. The Hope Diamond was once mailed Registered. Registered is the safest way to ship something.

If the package was delivered with the contents missing, you need to take it up with a postmaster, not a clerk or carrier. Or even better contact the Postal Inspector office in your area. They take such things seriously.

Same thing happened to me with a package coming from CAC in NJ. I thought it was Gone.

I've had USPS ($25K of freshly graded coins) and FedEx (other somewhat pricey stuff) packages delivered to the wrong address across town (same number and first three letters of street name). Check your tracking info - it should say where it was/will be delivered. Fortunately, I was able to get everything home safely. Hopefully, you will too.

    Public Service Announcement
Sending a package a week before and a week after the new year...OUCH.
Holidays are sketchy enough, but Dec 15 - Jan 10...that's a risky gamble like **Burmada Triangle Risky*

    Hope they find your package.

I'm also cautiously optimistic that this is simply a package taking its time from TX to CA and that the online tracking updates have not been done. This is USPS Registered Mail, which can take an awful long time, and as of today it has been less than two weeks.

    Good luck to the sender.

Having shipped a couple of hundred Double eagles (mainly registered mail) over the past few years, none were lost. The quickest delivery was 4 days, the longest 3 weeks. A couple of times I believed the package was lost. I was opening cases regularly since they usually go to sleep in Jamaica, ny for 4- 6 days before moving on. Every package was insured for full value (with sig) so i was never really concerned if one went astray.

  • All coins shipped from Dallas, Texas. The box was shipped on the 27th of Dec and then, 2 days later shipped another box via the same post office and also registered mail. Both boxes were going to PCGS for the coins to be graded. The alarm bells went off when the second box (Shipped on the 29th) arrived and was delivered to PCGS on the 5th of Jan 2024. The first box only showed the Post office taking possession of the box and then nothing; fell off the face of the earth. The Post Office personnel have been looking for the first box since last Friday and have no idea where it went... I have my fingers crossed it shows up. I wanted to get the list of coins out there since they are not "Mainstream" coins that one sees everyday. The Spanish coins were very high grade coins which were picked up in Spain over a period of 13 years while stationed there with the USAF. Thanks to all for your comments, most appreciated!

I’ve had register mail lost, researched multiple times and then found because they forgot “those packages are locked up”.

I've only signed for two packages since Feb.2020. My wife and I receive medicine
through the mail and I of course my auction winnings from Europe. In Dec. I had
two packages from Germany track as far as U.S. customs in New York. I received
both packages but tracking shows them still in customs. I notified both auction
houses. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

It took four weeks for a 1943 Copper Lincoln to get delivered via Registered Mail, with no tracking updates for about a two week period. Not a pleasant wait, but it showed up. I think this is much too early to consider them stolen. I hope it shows up for you soon.

Sorry this happened. I hope they show-up. :'(

I am a newer collector (started April 2020), and I primarily focus on U.S. Half Cents and Type Coins. Early copper is my favorite.

I'm hoping for a good outcome in light of some of the delivery times that I've seen reported here.

Registered mail is the most secure but delivery sucks. It doesn't matter if you send it Priority , express,or regular mail. When it's registered all the delivery times go away. Give your package 30 days then get worried.

    Have a good day, Gary

I think it’s 95% likely your package will arrive safe & sound. Since COVID, tracking information has been pretty lousy. I had a registered package “go dark” for about two weeks back in October. It eventually showed back up on the tracking system and was delivered shortly thereafter.
