Still looking
Still looking, thank you
Not a surprise ...I am still looking!
The thread in the US Coin Forum reminded me I should bump this WTB ad!
If anyone tracked the Stack's auction of 19 September 2024 and saw the prices realized for some of the medals, you saw RECORD PRICES!
I didn't see the thread on the US Coin forum. Funny enough, I was working in starting one now that the auction ended. These were indeed record prices, and I was taken back. I wonder if one guy wound up with all of them like in the auction of the William Spohn Baker Collection? One of these medals brought like $2500!
Pre-auction, I was watching a few I'd like to purchase like the FCC Boyd and Jonathan Swanson medals, but I was thinking a couple hundred, not the multiples that they brought.
I was happy to see them get the attention, though. Hopefully they indeed went to someone who will cherish them and appreciate the history of that storied club.

I was not surprised by the Valentine medal (the one that topped 2500 dollars). Even though it was made in quantities similar to those of other NYNC presidents (50 bronze), Dr Valentine has an extended fan base due to his involvement in things like half dimes. For the longest times, concerning half dimes, he was THE guy who wrote the book!
@Barndog: encouraged by our mutual friend, I've been researching Valentine a bit. I came across this thread, where you hunted down a Valentine medal in 2007 for the purposes of giving it to Mr. Half Dime!

when Steve Crain (mrhalfdime) passed away, I made sure that I was able to purchase that Valentine medal from the numismatic portion of his estate that was handled by Dave Perkins). So for the rest of my life, that medal has a good home!
still looking. Forever looking
Cash for your copy of the book would make a great gift for Christmas
