I like the 37 better. Earlier date that just looks smoother.

@TomB stated my thoughts exactly. The reverse of the '40 really is better though.

Do you think it would CAC?

From those photos..... absolutely no idea.

Spot on the 1940 under liberty caught my eye instantly. So, I'd go 37.

The 1937 has better eye appeal. No blemishes to the naked eye.

Is there something missing under the ear on the 1940, or is that just the lighting?

If your reason for preferring neither coin is that you don’t like red copper, why reply at all? The question posed wasn’t what people thought of red copper.

In answer to the question that was asked, I’d go with the 1937, as it looks cleaner.

37 only due to that spot on the 1940 under Liberty.

Based on the pics, the 37 has more eye appeal to me.

    Tough call.

Kind of like what color at the Roulette table - black or red?

A flip of the coin would do me just fine as they both look stunning!!

Suggestion, if you like both why not buy the pair. Maybe you can do a layaway.
Or it's possible you don't need both but just a thought.
I've done this before myself and it worked out great.
I do know this is not always possible.

The 37 definitely; it has a cleaner overall look, especially on the obverse.

i like the 1937, it just looks a whole lot better to me (cleaner coin to me for starts) :)

    I much prefer the '37.

The '40 has more intense red, but it has small visual distractions on the obverse (above and below Liberty) that I can't tolerate.

    When in doubt, don't.

I like the 37. Spot on 40 below Liberty and on 40 reverse by the E of E Pluribus are both detractors.

37 for sure, mostly because it is a more interesting date than 1940!

Ike’s T wasn’t supposed to post the seller information that was underhanded and unnecessary. I was still considering buying it. However I don’t need it that badly anyway so no worries 😈

. No worries just didn’t understand why the seller information was posted as I don’t understand what it adds to the discussion. Manifest destiny claims he bought it even though it shows still available for purchase on EBay
