A new Variety? Alien eyed Trade $

How did this Straight grade? Obvious damage in the eye area on the obverse and reverse. Otherwise, an original looking coin.

    They missed it. Somebody had an obsession with eyes.

    Collector and dealer in obsolete currency. Always buying all obsolete bank notes and scrip.

    Shame, charming 40 otherwise of a tougher date. Similar punch on the 7 too

    The real test is the TPG would buy that back, as clear a case as one can find, if they don’t there really isn’t a guarantee at all anymore.

    Likely not a strike-through since the eyes on both obverse and reverse have been gouged. These also would not line up for a single punch through the metal if the coin were struck with coin alignment.

    I could see how that would be missed, but man, it looks pretty obvious. I remember a NJ copper colonial once that had a full eye not matching others. It was quite the “scandal” at the time haha!
