My first thought was a copper coin of the second French Empire, under Emperor Napoleon III. Maybe a 10 centime? I might just be seeing things. Can you make out a date on the obverse, and maybe a mintmark below the eagle(?) on the reverse?

Many thanks guys, I think it's definitely now leaning towards being a coin of that era. Unfortunately I don't have it in my possesion as of yet and can only rely on the rather grainy photo that I have. I will update the thread as soon as I have more information. A thousand thanks for the information already.
Could be a 10 centime, that was my other thought. Horrible photo. Would be much easier if we could see the coin.
