(2007) $1 Madisons what do I have here?
So I hit my local flea market this morning and among a mound of stuff I found two molded black inserts that each held 2 $1 Madison dollars in airtites. Both pair are one MS finish and one satin finish dollar. The satin Madisons do not have edge lettering. The MS finish ones have the correct edge lettering, so I'm guessing these were in some kind of gift box. More importantly the satin ones appear to be worth something, especially if graded. Bonus is one of the satin has a nice die crack and small cud at K7. Your insight is appreciated.
Merry Christmas to you all. Peace Roy

Really neat find, but I’m not so sure these are worth grading. I would guesstimate a value of ~$25 each for the MEL
From 2005 to 2010, the United States Mint used a special Satin Finish for coins included in the annual mint sets.
Not sure why it has no edge lettering.

@Fraz Thanks for opening them up for me. So it seems the missing edge lettering is an actual error. Occurred on various Presidential dollars. Got these for face so I'm good. The satin finish kinda reminds me of the Sac experimental rinse look.

The MEL dollars seem to go for $50 or less in the lower Unc grades. They are not very rare.
The Madison MEL Dollars are relatively common. I have a PCGS SP66 that I paid less than $50 for.
Thanks all. Glad I rescued them from the heap. The hunt continues. Peace Roy

PCGS created a unique coin number for the satin Madison without edge lettering.
If anyone is interested, here is the Coinfacts page.
Edited for clarity.
SP66 2.5K? Nice chunk-a-change.
2.5K where are you seeing that?
