Sterling silver dining set...

Hello Everyone... I'm typically over at the US Coins Forum and haven't done PMs in quite some time, so I thought I'd check here. My sister inherited a sterling silver dining set and was looking to part ways with it. I suggested finding a reputable coin dealer that also does metals near her in AZ. How are sets like this evaluated? Is each piece 92% or do some sets have the handles all silver and the blades are steel?? Just trying to get some good information out... thanks in advance.

Buyers usually figure knives as 1/2 ounce. My last experience at selling sterling flatware was at 85% of spot. might be able to et a little more if a popular pattern.
it's crackers to slip a rozzer the dropsy in snide
Many places won't even accept knives now - it's just too much work to justify. The blades are steel and must be removed, plus the handles are often hollow and weighted with other metals (lead, etc.). Your set looks like a generic set, nothing special (eg. Tiffany), so it's basically worth melt. I have used Midwest Refiners several times in the past few years. They are currently paying 90% of melt, which is pretty dang good!

Thanks for the direction. Can anyone recommend a decent metals dealer in Payson AZ or near Phoenix?? Thanks again...

FYI - I shipped to Midwest Refiners. The difference in what they were paying vs. what I could find locally more than made up for the shipping cost...

I use the BST forum and have sold many sets over the years.... just price it right. I did and do figure 1/2 oz for each knife. Good pics are needed.

PS: I sell the silver not the box as those get tossed.
