PCGS Turnaround time surprise.........

DoubleEagle59DoubleEagle59 Posts: 8,375 ✭✭✭✭✭

Just got my economy level grades back in 15 days!!

Maybe because 7 of the 8 were SWL halves, I don't know?

Either way, I'm extremely happy and the grades too were outstanding (two graded ms67).

Xmas definitely came early..........thanks PCGS!!!

    Nice to hear that.

They've been pretty quick lately, I think they've either managed to catch up, submissions have slowed down, and/or they have finally increased their capacity but it is definitely noticeable.

My mistake ....should be WL Halves

We have a dollar variety here in Canada that is a SWL (short water line) and my senior brain sometimes takes over without the rest of the brain having any say about it.

Grading is fine and I suspect always has been; even economy. I suspect its the add-on services that bog things down. I sent two orders together in October, one just plain old econ grading and received it back in less than 4 weeks. The other was a 7 coin crossover with one truView if it crossed. It too graded quickly, and moved to QA where it's been since mid November. QA is checking labels, etc so administrative in nature. This delay shouldn't be happening IMO.

  • Super to hear about the quick turnaround. I have three regular submissions sent in late Nov I didn't expect to hear back before 2024..

$700+ price guide on those 67's

I was wondering what level I should submit a coin at when I put it at 66/67 and the price guide goes $250/$750

maybe I should just go economy because with my ownership adding a couple points, it will probably come back a 65 at $150

I do wonder how many days the TrueViews add to processing times.

I struggle with that too. You can always go economy and they can upcharge you if it grades better but economy service is usually slower. I also tend to think the submission tier might influence the grade though although it shouldn't. I think photos add 2-3 days but worth it.

Do you think because mine were almost all of one series that could have sped things up?

Over hundreds of submissions, there is just a random luck element whether a submission gets put on the "fast track" or "slow track" at PCGS. I have not been able to discern why some submissions seem to fly through and some languish.

@JimW @robec @Manifest_Destiny - any movement on your November submissions?

Regular submission stuck in “Received” since 11/27.

    Well cool.

I too have had several grading turnaround time surprises. Can't remember any that came back early though.......

We’ll see how they do with the avalanche of submissions they must’ve received at FUN.

My 4 coin submission still in “Received” since 11/28. They probably feel abandoned.

My economy order that was received 11/10 went into grading status this Monday or Tuesday. Regular received the same day shipped 1/2/24.

Based on the advertised turnaround, no surprises with the turnaround times nor the posted grades.

MS66 taste on an MS63 budget.

Mine just moved to the Encapsulation stage in the last couple of days.
I submitted them at the Baltimore show in early November 2023, so I think roughly 2 months at this point.
It seemed like they sat, then once the ball got rolling.... anyway timewise about what I was expecting. Although, hearing of others moving through much more quickly makes me want it to have happened quicker :)
